This is breaking nationally as I speak. The untouchable Rachel Maddow is breaking it on All In with Chris Hayes. And it’s almost too complicated to go into, but at the same time too f*cking stupid to believe, in other words, vintage Trump.
I may have a detail or two mixed, but not enough to affect the content. I have to take you all the way back to the genesis of what turned out to be Trump’s Manhattan criminal fraud trial, and work forward from there, although the story actually starts earlier. Here we go.
We all know the sad saga of Traitor Tot trying to shut Daniels up in 2016 by funneling a hush money payment to her through Michael Cohen in the weeks preceding the election. A part of this settlement included her signing a Non Disclosure Agreement, or NDA.
After the election, when whispers started coming out about it she went to her lawyer to negotiate an agreement for her to break the NDA so she could tell her side of the story. Trump’s lawyers refused to allow her to break the NDA, so she sued. She lost her first trial to break the NDA, but eventually succeeded in having it vacated. But a part of the verdict of the first trial was that Daniels had to pay Trump’s legal expenses, which his Barbary Pirate attorneys calculated at $675,000.
They have been dickering over that ever since. Trump’s lawyers have played hard ball punitively for the trouble she has caused Traitor tot since this whole thing broke. She has been threatened with foreclosure as a way of getting cash to help to pay the tab. But she kept trying.
A couple of months ago, Rachel Maddow had Daniels on for a 45 minute interview about life post Trump trial. And during that interview, Daniels spoke frankly about the fear and difficulty she and her current partner were living under while facing total financial loss in restoring her First Amendment rights. Rachel did a little digging.
What follows is pure legal Dumb and Dumber. Daniels attorney got a written offer from Trump’s lead attorney. He had spoken to his client, and Mr. trump was prepared to settle for a reduced price of $660,000 rather than the original $675.000. The catch? The settlement would require Daniels to sign another, ironclad, perpetual NDA.
Getting this? Traitor Tot is staring down jail time sentencing on 34 state fraud counts thanks to an NDA he had Stormy Daniels sign in return for the payment. And now, Trump is willing to settle the court costs with a $45,000 hush money reduction if she signs another freakin’ NDA! Imbecile is too wimpy a word.
Daniels was so sure she was about to be out from under Trump that she had her response to her lawyers call videoed. Instead it picked up the outrage when her lawyer told her the new terms. They immediately told Trump lawyers to f*ck off! Weeks later His Lowness finally settled for a grand total of $627,000 with no NDA.
Now here’s the Dumber part of Dumb and Dumber. Rachel Maddow obtained not only an excerpt of the phone call when Daniels learned that Traitor Tot was trying to screw her again, she also obtained several written and text communications between Trump’s lawyers and Daniels’s lawyers. And it’s the basic slow moving train wreck I just related.
In fairness, she reached out to Trump’s lawyers for a response before she went to air, and got no comment. But Maddow did get a response from his campaign, and the response was straight out of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Universe. It read in part, The purported documents that the show discovered are a part of the Iranian hacking operation, and as such are doctored and not accurate with the true negotiations or events. Uhhh, OK.
Here’s the Dumb Sh*t part of Dumb and Dumber. Rachel and her staff never actually discovered or uncovered anything! She got the documents and the video from Daniels and her lawyers. And she got them raw, in fact she did her own due diligence redactions of things like addresses and phone numbers before displaying them on the screen. But unless Iranian agents secretly broke into the law offices of Daniels and altered the documents, the Trump campaign is gonna need a new sacrificial lamb for their candidate’s stupidity.
There was already a bloc of Trump voters out there who indicated that Trump convictions would be a red line for them. And here he goes again, the walking poster child for the word Recidivist. And one more thing to consider. Rachel Maddow reached out to the Manhattan DA’s Office and asked for a comment on these new revelations. No Comment. Hmmmmm

There comes a point in time when the behavior of certain people leaves one practically speechless. I am left with only this to say: Oy Gevalt.
As I understand it, what made the original NDA a criminal act was that it interfered with the 2015 election by suppressing information that would have affected the outcome. Now they’re trying to do it again under the same circumstances.
Raises the question of whether Daniels has new information that trump and his lawyers are so desperate to keep quiet that they would risk yet another criminal indictment. I guess we’ll find out very soon.
