Whether Trump wins or loses, he “has completed 78 orbits around the sun, even in Florida. With respect to the upcoming election, it is actually more likely than not that Trump will not be able to serve out a term or even die in office. It is really tough to say it, but at least Trump has some experience as president, presuming that’s even a good thing. But J.D. Vance? Do we even know who he is, other than the “single cat lady” thing?
Nah, not really, and that’s a problem because just two to three years ago this guy was just an influencer-author (And not that bad an author, mind you) with no idea how to run the government other than influencing things – I guess. At the very very very least, Trump has gone through emergencies like hurricanes and massive fires and thus knows how to manage those.
Maybe not pandemics but, you know – those are tougher. According to Matt Bai of The Washington Post, the potential Trump-supporter had best think about J.D. Vance as president:
“What you might not remember is that in 1955, Eisenhower, who at 65 was considered a notably old president, suffered a massive heart attack while on a golfing trip in Denver,” Bai recalled. “That Ike survived was pretty much a flip of the coin. Had he died, America would have seen the Nixon presidency 14 years earlier than it actually did.”
Yes. Okay. Covered above. Move on because there is a major difference to be found between the two:
But there is one glaring difference between Nixon and Vance, he wrote: “Nixon had an abiding faith and seriousness of purpose when it came to governance.”
Well, this is a proven truism. Trump was twice impeached and yet never stepped down. Nixon stepped down the moment it looked like he would be impeached. “You won’t have Nixon to kick around anymore.” Nixon at least took the office seriously enough to back down. Do not confuse what Bill Clinton did compared to what Nixon and Trump did – which relate to the actual governance of the country.
But J.D. Vance? We have no idea what interests him, not really. Yes, Hillbilly Elegy was pretty good (It was). We don’t like the central tone but it does give one something to think about. But the book is primarily about the culture between Democrats versus Republican and, like so much, Vance generalizes between what are called conservative ethics, and yet are actually seen across political lines, especially the not so great ones.
Beyond culture wars, does anyone have any idea what Vance believes in and is capable in? He is very young. We don’t really know whether he can govern at this level with not even two years under his belt! Harris, on the other hand, has a resume like few others. She has been vice-president (!), no better preparation available, she has been a U.S. Senator, pretty deep roots in the Capitol. She has been the attorney general of the largest state in the country, pretty good lawyer, responsibility thing… She just has it when it comes to experience and a proven demonstration that she knows the job.
J.D. Vance will be one rather obese 5-iron away from the presidency throughout and unlike many presidencies, this one comes with a bit of a past-due date, which makes it critical to look at Vance. But there is virtually nothing to see. Yes, yes, he wrote a good book, even if it is more MAGA than anything, it is flat good. But being an influencer is nothing compared to being a president and on that there is very little at which to look.
Okay, he’s a born hillbilly, come influencer, then possible president. Who does he want to influence and at what cost? Best figure that out, in… what? Maybe 40 days now. Not us, mind you, but that independent type needs to look at this. Maybe MAGA-Light?

🤯 Aiyee! Why hasn’t this been the scary daily message on news mastheads around the world!?! If you thought Palin was scary…and I did…Vance getting a promotion-by-death oughta be paralyzing!! 😱
The Vice President puts it very well: all her life she has represented YOU the people.
All Vance’s life has been promoting: Me the imbecile.
A completely untested weirdo who’s a half-eaten cheeseburger away from the presidency. What could possibly go wrong?
Vance is a creation of unfortunate political circumstances. Hopefully he too has a ‘use by date’ just about to appear over his political horizon.
From what I’ve discerned, he wasn’t a born hillbilly. He came from a suburban background but used to vacation with grandparents in hillbilly country in the Appalachians.
So he’s fake there in what he wears as his key identity.
He’s more a Holiday Hillbilly.
or a HillbUlly
Orangeman’s experience with hurricanes was throwing paper towels to victims, saying the hurricane was a lot of water, making the path of a hurricane change to how he wanted it with a black sharpie on a map. His experience with forest fires was saying that California should rake their forests. Not much more experience than Vance to be honest. Oh course, then there was this failed Covid response and hundreds of thousands dead…plus the grifting, the constant grifting. Please do not make him sound like a better resident than he actually was.
Vance did not write a good book. Nor is he a hillbilly. Good grief, you make him sound… sane. More both siderism.
Vance is simple and cheap. Pay me and I’ll say or do anything you want. Yes, you can buy Trump but it costs more and his brain is not connected to his mouth. But Vance is a can of soup, you get what you pay for – As long as Vance gets his money, he will say and do anything … but like the donut shop, don’t expect him to read stage direction, walk, talk and improv – can’t do it … but if the card says the moon is a metal pie plate in the sky, I will say that … if you want me to go racist on my wife and kids, let me check my bank balance today … okay, I am all over that like curry on rice …
