When it comes to Trump and religion as in Trump being anointed by Evangelicals things got way out of hand long ago. Then this year Trump has gone from, according to an astonishing number of Evangelicals (and their respective flocks) from being ‘Sent by God’ to BEING God. And their Jeebus. I know. It’s crazy as hell (pun intended) but the fervor is just plain nuts. WEIRD. It’s also dangerous.  Ok, so Trump has co-opted a sizeable chunk of Christianity. Islam of course he cares nothing about other than I suppose getting rid of it entirely and ‘by any means necessary.’ Now Trump is making a play for Judaism via being THE person who has done more for Israel (the holy land) than anyone else!

I for one think a lot of Jewish people including in Israel itself might beg to differ.

Jewish people might take me to task and if I’m way the hell off base I’ll take by beatings but I grew up Christian and starting in Sunday school learned a bunch about the Old Testament. Which by the way is NOT the Torah, but it covers much of the history of Jews and what we now call Israel for all that long, long time before Jesus was born.  When Trump talks about what he’s done for Israel he almost always touts what he’s done for the Jewish people. Having swallowed up a chunk (the RWNJ part) of Christianity he’s trying to do the same to RWNJ Jews both in Israel and here in the U.S.  But as President Biden would say ‘Come on man!’, this claim about doing more for Israel than any other person?

I cited a few names in the title. Abraham is the patriarch of not just what became Judaism but he also laid the foundation for Christianity and Islam. There’s a reason in other words the trio are called the Abrahamic religions. But more to the point it was Abraham that settled his people in Canaan, or in other words the land we now call Israel. (King) David was I think pretty instrumental in saving and preserving Israel. There’s good reason for him to be revered, starting with the story we all know about his slaying Goliath.  Solomon was the one who built the first Temple. Lot’s of stories about the wisdom of King Solomon. Oh, and let’s not forget Moses. All he did was get the Jews released from bondage in Egypt and though it took a lot longer than he planned led them home to the holy land to re-establish their place there.  Silly ole me thinks dudes like that maybe did a whole lot more for Israel than an a-hole like Trump who by moving our Embassy to Jerusalem and fostering ever more (Jewish version) RWNJ religious extremism via Netanyahu has actually made Israel’s security worse!

However, Trump knows who’s buttered his bread and if Evangelical wingnuts say Israel can do no wrong then he’ll play along. Truth be told he doesn’t give two sh*ts about Israel or Jewish people other than votes from Jewish Americans. And of course donations from mega rich Jewish people. In his mind, since he’s already replaces Jesus with Christians then when it comes to Jewish people HE is now ‘King of the Jews.’ That why, as The Daily Beast reports Trump got triggered enough by Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro’s convention speech to lash out. The article describes how Shapiro called Trump “a man with no guardrails” who “wants to take away our rights and freedoms.”  Well, it was certain Trump wasn’t going to take that without clapping back:

“The highly overrated Jewish Governor of the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro, made a really bad and poorly delivered speech talking about freedom and fighting for Comrade Kamala Harris for President,” Trump wrote in his post.

His post also said Harris “hates” Israel and hopes ‘in the end it will fail.” WTF? Well, it IS Trump we are talking about and if he’s king of anything it’s King of Making Sh*t Up.  He went on to say this:

“Yet Shapiro, for strictly political reasons, refused to acknowledge that I am the best friend that Israel, and the Jewish people, ever had,” Trump wrote. “I have done more for Israel than any President, and frankly, I have done more for Israel than any person, and it’s not even close. Shapiro has done nothing for Israel, and never will.”

Trump would throw in some now stock b.s. about Harris having ‘stollen’ the nomination from Biden but he’s clearly triggered by Shapiro’s speech.  The thing is, Shapiro is POPULAR back in Pennsylvania and just as with folks in Minnesota who are glad to share the Gov. with the country, Pennsylvanians would have felt the same had Shapiro been given the VP nod.  It’s a crucial state and even a rank and file dumbass MAGA (including and especially in PA which has a lot of them) bad mouthing Gov. Josh Shapiro won’t win Trump any votes there. I could well COST him quite a few votes. Including as I just said some he had, or should have had locked up tight.

I’d like to add one additional thought. Trump has made a play for Jewish votes by claiming (until Shapiro’s speech) that Gov. Shapiro was passed over because Harris is “anti-Semitic.” That Harris is married to a Jewish man and even attends synagogue with him on important dates (and he attends church with her in the same way) is an inconvenient truth for Trump, as his her well-documented long history of support for Israel. Support strong enough to have inspired a backlash with many upset about the horrific situation for civilians in Gaza. Anyway Shapiro wasn’t having any of that.

Earlier in the week Shapiro responded to Trump’s claim that Harris’ picking Walz as her running mate was “very insulting to Jewish people” – going on to insist Shapiro wasn’t chosen “because of the fact that he’s Jewish.”  Shapiro called bullsh*t on Trump:

This week, Shapiro hit back, telling reporters that Trump is “the least credible person to listen to when it comes to hate and bigotry and certainly antisemitism.”

“Antisemitism played absolutely no role in my dialogue with the vice president,” Shapiro said. “Absolutely none. It is also true that antisemitism is present in our commonwealth, in our country, and in some areas within our party, and we have to stand up and speak out against that.”

My mind keeps bumping on Trump specifically calling out Shapiro’s religion by referring to him as a “Jewish Governor.” To me that’s Trump telling his MAGAs Shapiro is just some “Jew” and part of the “other” that they should fear. Again, Trump doesn’t care about Jewish people or Israel outside the purely transactional matter of their votes – and money if they happen to be rich “Jews.” If the aren’t all in for Trump he’ll get the only use out of them he can by painting them as the enemy to his MAGAs.

It’s been speculated (including by me on this blog) Trump made a mistake by attacking another popular Governor as in Brian Kemp of Georgia. What was weeks ago solidly in Trump’s control suddenly got put into play and he needs Kemp and Kemp’s supporters for that turnout operation. Behind the scenes they aren’t at all happy with Trump now. Now he’s gone and attacked a popular Governor of another state only this time it’s a blue one and well within Democrat’s reach.  Trump I think really is losing it. Flailing about even.

As for Josh Shapiro, he’s still a young guy. He’s got a seriously great future ahead of him and he knows it. If he’s disappointed he’s sure as hell not showing it, and as I just said he knows that in eight years Tim Walz won’t be running to take over from Harris.  He knows by being a good soldier for now there could be great reward down the road.  Or he could take over for Casey in the Senate. So by all means Trumpty-Dumpty – when you and your mini-me Vance are in Pennsylvania keep taking potshots at Shapiro. He’ll bury your sorry butts with the bullshiite you try to sling!

  1. Hello. How do you know “that in eight years Tim Walz won’t be running to take over from Harris”? Not kvetching, just really curious.
Thanks for taking time too answer my question. 🙂

    • No one knows. Now or tomorrow. It’s going to take a lot of tomorrows.

I always wonder about folks who post about XYZ would be a great —- after they do something good. ABC would make a great justice, KLM would be a great president (AOC anybody?) QRX would be a great…

Those “instant promotions” are always so over the top, meaningless and usually thoughtless as to be flabbergasting. To me. Please stay based in reality, let the RWNJs have their own delusions, we don’t need to add any. 🙂

    • I read that shortly after he was nominated and heard a bit of discussion from a panel telling us about him on some show on MSNBC. I’ve not heard anything to the contrary since.

  2. When con xtians turn against the Jews and Israel, and they will, IF von shitzinpants is still alive he will be fine with their decision to do so and join right in REGARDLESS of his daughter and son-in-law (and AIPAC). He’s still kowtowing to the con xtians, still behind proj. 1825 and will always be changing his spots where we Jews are concerned. Any Jew who trusts this moron needs to be removed from our gene pool-it’s small, tiny in fact, and adding low I.Q. individuals will not help us one whit.

Von shitzi and con xtians are the worst enemies Jews could possibly have. They are in fact descendants of amalek. I for one hope Governor Shapiro tears von shitzi a new ass-hole.
