The Trump re-election campaign – and therefore Fox News – has a lot invested in the false narrative that the Biden administration put Vice President Harris in charge of its border management policies, going so far as to completely make up from whole cloth the fraudulent charge that she had been named the so called “border Czar”. The truth is that Harris was assigned a diplomatic mission by the President in March of 2021, to travel to the troubled nations of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to address the problems of economic displacement and political turmoil have sparked waves of migration of their citizens to our southern border. And, by most accounts, she did a good job.
“Biden tapped Harris in March 2021 to lead a much more narrow diplomatic effort to curb migration from the “Northern Triangle” countries—Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador—and address the root causes for why residents there immigrate to the U.S. in the first place, along with enhancing other countries’ borders that those migrants travel through along the way before they get to the U.S.
She was never tasked with managing border security in the U.S., which is under the purview of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who said in June 2021 Harris is “leading our nation’s efforts to address the root causes—that fundamental question of why people leave their homes,” while he is “address[ing] the security and management of our border.”
Harris has led efforts on addressing those root causes, particularly in getting private sector investment in the region to improve its economy—which the White House said in March had created 250,000 jobs—with Honduran Minister of Investment Miguel Medina telling CNN that working with major companies is “not something that is accessible to a normal company in Honduras” without U.S. involvement, and “if it wasn’t for this being moved from the White House, there’s … no way we could have had the success” the initiative on private sector investment has had.
But this is not the blatant lie that Trump and Fox News want to promote. Particularly this last bit:
“Immigration levels from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador have gone down in the years since Harris’ assignment began, with data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) showing encounters with migrants from those three countries have dropped from approximately 700,000 in 2021 to 500,000 in 2023—while encounters with migrants from other countries outside Harris’ purview, like Colombia, Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela have gone up.”
So when Former NY State Senator David Carlucci went on Fox News to refute their false narrative and to also point out that it was Trump who shut down the border legislation that Congress had worked so hard to create, well, that kind of truth telling could not be tolerated.
“Republicans are almost fanatical about the problems at the Southern border. Still, when presented with facts, like, for instance, when former President Donald Trump took to Truth (LOL) Social to tell Republicans to back off of a bipartisan border deal because it would give Joe Biden a win, they did. They fell in lockstep while casting aside the good of our country — again. I’m starting to see a pattern here.
Trump took an ax to the deal, which was a bipartisan bill that would beef up border security and immigration enforcement while authorizing more assistance to Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. But he didn’t want Biden to get that win. After all, the border deal would have given Trump less to campaign on against President Biden. But now Kamala Harris is Trump’s opponent, so conservatives are flinging shit in hopes of something sticking.
Former NY State Senator David Carlucci hit Fox News’s Harris Faulkner with a truth bomb about the bill, and she cut him off because, of course, she did.
“Look, I think Kamala Harris is exactly what Donald Trump is afraid of,” Carlucci said. “Look, he’s been talking about all of these issues on the border. She went down to South America and Central America to try to help from the root of the problem, not the symptoms. If Donald Trump cared about the border, he wouldn’t have blocked…”
Harris interrupted to say, “We’re gonna move on.””
Yeah, Fox has been “moving on” from the truth for thirty years….

It is heartbreaking to think where America might be if all news media were held responsible to at least attempt to report the news as it actually happens instead of engaging in the passing off blatant lies and half truths to their viewers as actual journalism.
But then how would Harris Faulkner, Jesse Watters and Sean Hannity make a living?

One of the biggest lies told in this nation is when people, pols, etc. call the sewage spewing from fux nuz, “news”. Until it is called what it is, “entertainment” (even that term is debatable), millions of americans will continue to be deceived.
I had thought when liar fuck was taken to court that perhaps our nation had turned a corner but once again I had hope when there was none to be had.

We are not that far apart in our anger at the entire Trump universe, including far-right “journalists.” As long as credentials are being offered, I come from a long line of members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and have been literally fighting the existence of such organizations for nearly sixty years. And, my last line of work was as the harassment prevention investigator on college campuses…I was in the trenches of the worst hate and bigotry you can imagine and I took it on without fear. Of course, Trump would have been visiting the slave cabins at night after overseeing whippings all day.And, he would have been (and still is) comfortable using “ni**er bitch” as a descriptor. Cleora…I don’t think any person with a sense of justice has been comfortable in America since Dr. King, Malcolm X, Medgar Evans, and many others were murdered just for asking to be treated fairly by the policies of this country. Hey I know things are complex. I just find it perplexing how much hypocrisy and evil gets on national tv while so many think we live in a moral country. I haven’t been following PZ long, but I learned early on that not only does Scott’s anger transcend any level I’ve ever felt (and as the son of angry parents I didn’t get over myself until I was in my forties – I’m 79 now), it is also quite justified. While the level of foul language seen here may be multiples of that seen on other forums, to me it expresses to a T the anger and frustration respondents feel at the situation we find ourselves in. I regularly click on the link I set in my browser to see who wrote what, and what comments were posted. Nothing I’ve read here is any worse than what I’ve heard over the years, and I can’t see myself stopping anytime soon.
