This is a strange political ad for equally strange political times. It is directed at registered Republicans, which means that probably nobody on this site qualifies. But don’t skip past this, it’s definitely worth the watch because it is Republicans talking to Republicans. And let’s face it, we would not be in this mess but for the fact that the Republicans are enabling this interminable shitshow of the now-convicted criminal, always pyrotechnic joke, Donald Trump.
Every single day I read that Trump is polling ahead of Joe Biden somewhere, or if not ahead, then neck and neck. Or maybe Joe is in the lead, but well within the statistical margin of error. I don’t pay a lot of attention to polls these days because that is a lesson drilled into me in 2016, unfortunately, when I slept-walked through the election believing the polls I read that put Hillary Clinton’s chances of victory at 96%. That was an election cycle when only the down ballot concerned me. No more.
Here is the cry of Republicans to other Republicans to save the sinking ship. Will it work? One thing we know is true, the destruction of the Republican party and the destruction of America have been intertwined for the past nine years.
Wow! THIS is so good! The message is so well said. Trump has made the Republican Party unrecognizable. It no longer stands for all the values it used to represent. Trump has turned the entire Republican Party into a craven ‘Reality Show’ ~with himself as the lead character

I hope this resonates with Republicans. I see it a different way. I see the utter corruption that Richard Nixon brought to the party back in the day. I see the destruction that twelve years of GOP rule, eight of Ronald Reagan followed by four of H.W. did. For one thing, the IRS was out of its mind back in that era. I literally had an IRS agent on the phone brag to me about the “power” of the Internal Revenue Service. He said to me, “The IRS can seize a check that’s written out to you and cash it to pay your taxes. Did you know that? Nobody else has that power.”
He was lording this over me because I had $4,500 in back taxes due and I was being criminalized for it. True story. I told the guy I would make monthly payments to the best of my ability and if he wanted to begin actual criminal prosecution for that piddling a sum, please proceed. The IRS was deeply concerned about getting my few sheckels (and I was an office worker) while its billionaire class paid next to nothing. And it let me know that it was prepared to kick my ass, but good. I was the criminal, not the rich guys sailing their yachts out of Newport Beach, but me.
This is the Republican party I know, the Orwellian regime that is the image of a “boot stamping on a human face — forever.” The party that has always stood for the subjugation of women, the demonization of POCs, the dehumanization of the LGBT community. The GOP has always had its fascist aspect, its desire to eradicate the other under the guise of “traditional American values,” or worse yet, “Christianity.” Always.
It’s simply that under Donald Trump it has all come to light and now it’s out in the open, unabashed. The Republicans claim they want government so small you could drown it in a bathtub. Wrong. They want government so all-inclusive that it can kick the ass of anybody who defies it or their social standards, which is elitist patriarchy. That’s the essence of MAGA. That’s what resonates from the Make America Great Again pablum, the tyranny of the minority.
So while I don’t relate at all to the “honor” of the party, and the “legacy of Reagan” frankly makes me want to hurl for reasons I just explained, I do agree that the bottom line message of this clip is sound: the GOP needs to save itself from MAGA and the only way to do that is to vote against MAGA, i.e., vote against itself.
Another thing that I know for a fact and I’m sure you know it as well, is that this situation is going to get much worse before it gets better. The GOP can’t cut its ties to Trump. The MAGAfied maniac is the only Republican with a pulse that has any kind of a following. So blindly they follow, even though many of them hate Trump as much as we do. I’m pretty sure that’s how Mitch McConnell and “Coco Chow” feel about it.
Trump got where he did because of the vacuum of leadership in the party. When you’re down to Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush you’re scraping bottom. Dubya was scraping bottom and all the world knew it at the time. Dubya’s election was the Mulligan we were given. Trump’s election made the entire world truly distrust America and if Trump gets back in office, we are dead on the world stage.
The GOP has been in the trouble it’s in for quite some time now. As Barack Obama observed, Trump isn’t the problem, he’s the symptom of the problem. Trump has been called the anti-Christ and he may well be the anti-Reagan as well. But until somebody stronger comes along, they’re stuck with Trump. And that’s why I say that things are only going to get worse.
Or, maybe Nikki Haley will rally the troops. She does have the uncanny ability to make blandness and lack of stance play out as moderation. There is a possibility that anybody making noises like an old school Republican can gather the flock when things get bad enough. Let’s see what happens at the Republican convention which convenes four days after the sentancing of the convicted criminal who is their presumptive nominee. Let’s see what that looks like, the Party Of Law And Order nominating a convicted felon who is under a suspended sentence — or perhaps confined to home at Mar-a-Lago. This is going to be a unique GOP convention, I feel totally safe in making that prediction.

D.O.A. That’s the fascist party. The last republican president worth a damn was Dwight Eisenhower. Since then it’s been at war with honesty, decency, fairness, and the majority of Americans. Given our collective ignorance, indifference, selfishness, and gullibility, WE’VE ALLOWED THEM TO STEAL POWER, and criminalize 700,000 citizens a year over cannabis laws put in place by a criminal for political reasons SINCE 1970!!!! By the way, he was PARDONED FOR REAL CRIMES BY HIS OWN APPOINTED VP. We are a nation of FOOLS!!!! There will be no get out of jail free card or election for us I’m afraid.
The Republican party has always been the party of insurrectionist and the KKK. Didn’t Reagan say government “…was the problem.”? Oh, I saw him at his first campaign stop which like Trump’s showed who he was aligned with in this world. That stop was in the county where the white jury would not convict the KKK sheriff deputy of murdering the civil rights worker. No, all the R’s needed was a cult leader, because they have always been a treasonous cult without a true head.
The so called ideology of the Republican party has always been racism and rule by the rich (our betters). Small government (don’t spend my money on them lazy…), strong military (fat contracts for my donors and jack all for the enlisted), strong family values (sex police) and law and order (keep the you-know-who in line). So called conservatives have never offered anything but fascism.
The sad thing is that when they went full blown Nazi in America their uniform became cheap red hats from China and desecrated American flags. Hitler at least had his uniforms designed by a renowned designer, Hugo Boss. They stole the slogan ‘America First’ from the Nazis, so why couldn’t they swipe just a little of their fashion sense?
Well, considering their own Führer seems to sport suits that came right off the rack from Goodwill, it seems a bit of a stretch to think the MAGAts themselves have any kind of fashion sense.
Philadelphia MS. I was there also. When that effing moron said he believed in states’ rights, I knew right away which direction the ‘pubes were going (kind of knew it in the Nixon years): whenever a candidate speaks in the south, or runs in the south, and they say “I believe in states’ rights”, it’s code for “you do whatever you want to your black citizens”. . If you noticed someone leaving reagan’s speech early, that was me.
There was no vacuum of leadership in the ‘pube party. Their leadership has been pointing the way and leading their gullible and foolish supporters down the path to where we are right now in 2024. They had no problem at all with the Dixiecrats joining them. None at all and they even invited them to do so. This IS the culmination of what they have been working on for over 40 years. Von Shitzinpants IS what they wanted all along. Hell, they almost had it with reagan and dubya f.f.s.-those two weren’t much brighter than our current nightmare but they differed in one respect: they put halfway competent people in their cabinet. A demented and ignorant squatter in the oval office suits the ‘pubes, especially pube leadership, to a T. They know how to play it now as well-tell the idiot they need to do some photo ops and then send him off to play golf while they do the work. The work, that is, of destroying the country.
I think that you meant sentence, not sentance
Yeah, because you’ve never fat-fingered a keyboard in your entire life.
fuck dude, give it a rest.
