A lot to unpack here. Mary Trump appeared earlier in the day on MSNBC to hold forth on a number of topics, chief among them, Donald’s inability to handle jail, Barron’s aborted entry into politics, and how it’s going to twist Donald’s insides on Monday when Michael Cohen is on the stand and Trump cannot break the gag order, or it is off to the hooscow for him. Mary makes no bones about it, that even a couple of hours in a holding cell, let alone a night in jail, would destroy her uncle. She says he couldn’t stand having his phone taken away, being just a normal American in a jail cell. I believe she’s absolutely right. For all that Trump plays the tough guy, put him someplace where he can’t do his complicated hair and makeup routine for even one night and he’ll completely lose it.
Monday will be some endurance exam for Donald Trump. He’s going to be sitting in a courtroom, forced to listen to his nemesis, Michael Cohen, who triggers him something fierce, and he can’t do a single thing about it. If he does react and say, “bullshit” like he did when Stormy Daniels was on the stand, then that will be a breach of the gag order and Justice Merchan will put him in jail.
Undoubtedly this has been explained in great depth to Trump. He has managed to contain himself so far. He asked Jeanine Pirro to attack Stormy Daniels since he couldn’t do it himself. It would not surprise me at all if Pirro went after Cohen in exactly the same fashion. At least that would keep Trump out of jail.
Now another point in the clip you just heard: Mary didn’t say anything about Melania pulling the plug on Barron Trump’s aborted entry into politics. She said, “Somebody came to their senses.” So that leaves me wondering exactly what might have happened there.
Assuming that Trump arranged for the Daily Mail article on how incredible a guy Barron was and how ready he was to have the media take him on, “like they’ve done to every other kid,” then it stands to reason that Melania knew about this. It strains credulity to think that she didn’t. And so what occasioned the sudden turnaround? I found myself wondering what “prior commitments” could Barron possibly have had which could supersede getting his father the Republican nomination? I mean, seriously, what could they be? My tennis workshop is a prior commitment, my sailing trip to the Bahamas, what exactly?
But I do agree with Mary Trump, that somebody came to their senses, because Barron was going to be used as a prop. That came across loud and clear. And the price that Barron would have had to pay would have been for him to lose the cloaking from public criticism that he’s enjoyed so far, due to being a minor and not having gone on record like his half-siblings in favor of his father. Nobody has messed with him in the media and now nobody will. Barron’s 18, yes, but unless he gets involved in politics and is giving his opinion on political subjects, nobody is going to bother him.
I would like to know what happened here. Melania had to have known about Barron’s launch into politics, there is no way she could not have. And I can only assume that when social media said, “Fine, bro. Welcome to the game. All’s fair in love and war and politics is war,” (those are actual quotes from Twitter) that Melania decided to call it all off. That is speculation and unfortunately speculation is all we have until some insider decides to leak something substantive.
And let me interject another sad fact. Barron may be being used a prop more than we know. Supposedly his best friend is Bo Loudon, son of *Dr.* Gina Loudon, who is a right-wing media personality. The Daily Beast reports that she has falsely stated that she had a Ph.D. in psychology, but she does not. She has some online degree in human and organizations systems. Her son, Bo, is supposedly following in her footsteps. Maybe he’s “best friends” with Barron because that totally suits his ambitions and mommy’s, ya spose? Again, you see how weird this all gets.
Barron may be a prop already. He was definitely going to be used as a prop in this instance and maybe he’s already there. Since Gina Loudon was part of Trump’s 2020 media advisory board, maybe this was her idea to use Barron as a tool to get the youth vote, or whatever the concept was. Now it’s clear that on one level this is throwing Barron to the wolves but if his BFF and the BFF’s mom was telling him what a great idea it was, then sure, he might have gone along with it. And then Melania went along with it — for a few days. Again, speculation, but it’s a theory that fits the facts.
Like so many things in Trump world, the situation with Barron is unprecedented. I personally have zero recollection of news breaking that a certain son or daughter of a politician had decided to follow in the illustrious parent’s footsteps and then a few days later — oops, never mind. But then legitimate politicians are not total flakes like the Trump family is.
But take a moment to sit back and think about it: We actually have a situation where somebody is running for president of the United States and he’s got an absentee wife who does not campaign with him and now a youngest son whose plans to follow in his footsteps lasted less than 48 hours. This is not the norm.
The Republican Party had much to gain with Barron’s entry into politics. .. Melani is the only one who would care enough to prevent it. .. ….. I believe they announced it without her knowledge and didn’t think she would do anything about it once it was made public. … It was foolish of those who were responsible, even bully Trump has no control over Melania.

Um, so what have Malia and Sasha Obama been up to lately? I haven’t heard much about their doings–despite being the “children of Democrats”–and Democrats who were loathed by a very vocal minority of the American public, both in and out of public service. (In fact, neither has their own Wiki page, appearing only on the page “Family of Barack Obama.”)
And, I do remember a LOT of stories about the Bush girls’ wild parties while Dubya was in the White House (especially as they were both under 21 and doing the “Girls Gone Wild” thing–minus the boob flashing–while Daddy was still in the White House) so some “children of Republicans” haven’t been handled with kid gloves.
Chelsea took a lot of heat as a minor upon the Clintons’ entry to the White House, but most of that came from one fat gasbag and Limbaugh took a LOT of criticism–even from his fellow right-wingers for the unfair attacks. But, after her parents left the White House, the press took little notice of Chelsea’s PRIVATE life (aside from her marriage) except when SHE got involved with Hillary’s political campaigns. (It’s also worth noting that Chelsea turned 18 in 1998 when her dad still had nearly 3 full years left in his presidency.)
Lardass limbaugh didn’t take enough criticism, and none from his captive audience, for his dumbass behavior toward Chelsea to get his show cancelled. Anything less than that is bubkes.

As long as he stays outside of politics, the only people who’ll bother him will be the paparazzi, interested in seeing whose arm he’s on or whose arm he’s taking to parties, etc. He IS a handsome young man and, no doubt, the paparazzi’s going to take a keen interest in his dating life for the next several years (and, if he does attend college in NYC, he’s going to have ample opportunities for becoming the subject of the paparazzi’s eager eyes).
I’d like to know what “You did WHAT!” is in Slovenian, because those are words that undoubtedly rang through the corridors of Mar-a-Lago last week. Your radar is spot-on, Ursula. Melania wears the pants in this dysfunctional family, and her husband fears her. She deserves full marks for doing the right thing for her son.

Knowing her husband and/or his advisors wanted Barron in play and agreeing to this are two distinctly different things. Also-if Barron has been paying even the slightest bit of attention to his father’s time in office, campaigns, etc. I’d could see where HE wouldn’t want to be involved. I don’t know how this kid feels about a spotlight but when I was in H.S. and early adulthood I sure as sh*t did not want anyone scrutinizing anything I did and would have rather offed myself rather than appear on camera in the news.
I think her husband/his campaign tried to make an end-run around Melania and failed miserably. I find it hard to believe that in this moment of time she would be OK with him being subject to press coverage.
