Liz Cheney has been replaced by Trump sycophant Harriet Hageman but she still maintains a voice in the national discourse. She’s issued a one-minute clip describing how Donald Trump is a risk that America cannot take again. If Cheney is supporting Ron DeSantis or some other candidate for the Republican nomination, that’s unknown at this time.
Cheney joins a chorus of voices, most notably Bill Barr’s recent condemnation of his former boss, in saying that Trump cannot be restored to power. And that’s all good and well. But it ignores a fundamental, simple truth: that is, if the GOP would simply cry Uncle at some point and say, this is enough, we’re done with this guy, then the national nightmare would end.
Trump needs to be gone. If the GOP refuses to entertain having him on the ticket, he will be gone. That’s not going to happen because as long as the possibility of regaining power exists, the GOP doesn’t care about the larger picture. They abdicated all morality and all responsibility the first time they put him on the ticket.
Then they refused to remove him from office, twice, when that was the indicated thing to do. Now he’s running again, for yet a third time, and the GOP is allowing it.
Good for Liz Cheney for taking a stance. Unfortunately, considering her Republican brethren and their refusal to take responsibility for enabling Trump, it’s akin to pi$$ing in the wind.

Realistically neither trump nor DeSantis has a chance in 2024, although one may get the GOP nomination. The sense I have is that the best Republican presidential candidates will simply sit out the next election. However, this won’t apply to the Senate, where the GOP will concentrate its campaign dollars. Democrats should do the same and focus on expanding their majority in the Senate and regaining it in the House. Biden will win the White House comfortably IF he remains healthy. That’s the wild card that most concerns me.
Where’s it being played? The base is extremely brain washed. It won’t mean diddly. This country has been indelibly attacked from within. Maybe in my grandkids generation – this bull shit from the RW will no longer be effective (not her ad.)
