This is one of those Don’t Know Whether To Laugh Or Cry moments, and I’ve chosen to cry, because there are people who actually believe this. That is the tragic part. Donald Trump said he “loved the uneducated” and of course he does. Because they will swallow anything, hook, line and sinker.

Nobody has more contempt for the MAGA base and conservatives generally speaking than the right-wing media and right-wing provocateurs like Charlie Kirk. That’s why they lie to them with impunity, they don’t respect them enough to tell them the truth.

You well recall the recent Fox News scandal, where executive decisions were made to go ahead and lie about the 2020 election being stolen, because it would be good for ratings. Now here’s the right-wing young turk, the leader of young conservativism, Charlie Kirk, here to give you a tutorial in American history that never happened.

“The tyranny of the clamoring majority.” No, we wouldn’t want the majority to rule, what kind of a system of government would that be? We want an oligarchy who lies to the masses, who in turn vote for them out of fear and make possible an autocratic government disguised as a democracy.

And the autocratic government stays in power by lying that it is The Other, they who attack the autocratic government, who keeps them from having the life they want, rather than the greedy and corrupt government they elect. Or, at least that is what this rhetoric appears to me to say. This is the mentality of the new Republican party, spread ignorance like manure so that conspiracy theories and nonsense can flourish and control of a fearful populace can be manipulated with ease.

Now this gambit on the part of the GOP — or at least the extremist fringes of it — presupposes that there are enough stupid people to pull this off. I don’t know if that’s a good stance to take, given the crystal clear evidence of the past three elections, with the Republicans taking a shellacking in 2018 and 2020 and then going down in flames in 2022.

Revisionist history is not limited to this clown. David Barton, the evangelical wingnut down in Texas who launched the lie that Trump was a born again Christian when it became evident Ted Cruz wasn’t going to be the nominee, has been teaching this kind of nonsense for years.

Orwell was right. Who controls the past controls the future and who controls the present controls the past. May God help us when the GOP next controls the present, because you know the pendulum that politics is, it swings back and forth and the Republicans will be back in power at some point. Let us pray it is some version of Republican that is not right-wing MAGA extremist. Although, maybe by now that’s baked into the cake.

Since by now you’re in need of a laugh, take 11 minutes and watch this version of history. It makes as much sense as Kirk’s and is a lot more entertaining.
