So once again, we have another blonde-haired blue-eyed conspiracy theorist who looks like she rolled off the assembly line, spewing cockamamie b.s. about LGBTQ+ people and I can’t help but wonder why these people seem to all look more or less the same. They wear freshly-pressed suits and perky dresses and neatly coiffed hair and have that frozen smile that rarely changes.
So of course, Drenda Keesee, a right-wing extremist pastor, and spewer of conspiracy theories is running uncontested for a commissioner seat in Knox County, Ohio. She has devoted her career to spreading disgusting and dangerous anti-LGBTQ+ propaganda, according to LGBTQNation. Heck, she’s gone as far as saying that LGBTQ+ rights activists are taking their inspiration from Hitler’s playbook and using this to “indoctrinate” children.
Media Matters for America (MMFA) has recently excoriated local media in Knox County for failing to cover this lunatic’s dangerous views, and instead focusing on her anti-solar platform, which is also, well, weird. The watchdog group shared numerous clips of Keesee spouting her dangerous views. I tried to find ways to embed the videos here, but I’m a complete noob about these sorts of things, so if you’re curious, and not easily filled with anxiety and/or revulsion, I suggest you check MMFA’s story out.
In one of the clips, we see Keesee pushing her hateful anti-trans views while hawking her book, They Are Coming for Your Children.
“You can do all kinds of surgeries on the outside but it cannot change what god created a person,” KeeSee said. “They’re either XX female or xy male.”
I’ve heard transphobes like Keesee use this reasoning before and I think it’s absurd. I don’t believe trans people are arguing this. They know their chromosomes don’t change. They are just changing the outside to fit the inside and I fail to see what’s wrong with that.
But Keesee goes on to claim kids are being targeted by an evil agenda and are “being brainwashed” all day long.
“These children’s souls are at stake, their bodies are at stake…demonic spirits are attacking them, and satanic hordes are infiltrating them and even possessing their bodies.”
But this woman also complains about critical race theory being taught in schools. I guess Keesee wants kids to be ignorant about Black History in the U.S. while those demonic transgender people are busy recruiting them. She’s also claiming that schools are pushing pornography on kids. This is a dog whistle used by right-wingers as a thinly veiled code word for LGBTQ+ content. “Kids,” she has said, “could be taken for life by these alien entities called demons” and also says trophies and scholarships are being taken from girl athletes. Obviously, she’s implying that trans girls shouldn’t be allowed to participate in girls’ sports.
One clip from 2021 shows her using another right-wing dog whistle: claiming she doesn’t hate anyone, and then declaring that Hell is real and there is a devil. Oh, and gay relationships are “abominations” that Satan created in order to confuse folks and cause them to reject God.
And she did the usual and oft-repeated shpiel so common among right-wing extremists, saying that it’s an abomination when people “experiment with bodies and change them from what God designed them to create — be created male and female.”
I would like to know why God is so obsessed with this instead of what’s happening in Palestine, Ukraine, and the U.S. should Donald Trump become president again.
She claims people in the LGBTQ+ community who follow Satan will suffer “eternal hell” in the “lake of fire.” Keesee also claimed in 2023 that children are “being bombarded constantly with messaging that makes them question whether they’re male or female… Because just like Hitler, they know if you’re going to mold a child, you mold them at the youngest age you can before they have a developed consciousness of what is right and wrong.”
This woman just goes on and on with this nonsense. She and her husband Gary Keesee have been married for 40 years and the couple has five children. has five kids. I assume all are grown, but even so I feel sad for them.
And as I mentioned before, she is oddly obsessed with solar farms, it’s the only issue she mentions on her campaign website.
Sounds to me like Keesee and Marjorie “Jewish Space lasers” would get along just great. I hope someday the U.S. quits cranking out nutballs like these two but I’m not holding my breath.
We do have an important responsibility to young people and children. Don’t teach them to hate. Teach them to be tolerant and meet people who are different in so many ways. My parents twice sold their homes in all white southern suburban neighborhoods to black families in Missouri and Texas. I was very young when this happened, but I wonder how political it was at the time. Texas still has/had Black and Jewish restrictive covenants for land purchases. Times change, it still has a long way to go.
Anti lgbtq attitudes have changed dramatically in my lifetime. I will be long gone before the last of the bigots have died out and people can live in peace.
Maybe I will plant a solar farm with my ashes just to piss her off:)
