Mo Brooks was looking to have a Second Coming in Trump world. He was distressed at talk that the Dreamsickle Deity did not revere him as much as he once did and perhaps, heaven forfend, would do the ultimate and take away His coveted Divine Endorsement. [Note: Trump does capitalize Endorsement as you will see below.]

So to insure the fealty he needed, Brooks told the God of Trump world that he would smite His biggest foe, namely Mitch McConnell. He would be Trump’s mightiest gladiator in the arena of he Senate and a Senate Leader of Trump’s choice would reign supreme, after Brooks smote McConnell and toppled him. This Brooks promised a few days ago.

It was apparently too little, too late, because in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Donald Trump cast Mo Brooks out of MAGA heaven, as was predicted by the Holy Men at the Washington Examiner, who know the thoughts of the MAGA God’s mind. Now Brooks is finis. Kaput. No more. Shit outta luck, in fact.

Here is the Holy Edict, sent straight from Mar-a-MAGA-Heaven via the acolyte whose Twitter account hasn’t been suspended, despite regular protest to do so.

So, here it is, writ large and with a capital “E” on endorsement: Mo Brooks’ crime was that of heresy. He suggested that Republicans leave the 2020 election behind. This is a no no in Trump world. The scripture is clear, Thou shalt preach the gospel of the Stolen Election from now until the end of time.

Now this poses an interesting challenge for the GOP of the future. Is any election they win to be considered something that they managed to safeguard from the Evil Democrats? If so, then will they describe how some elections are able to be kept safe and others are not and so they are stolen? Because you know as well as the night follows the day that some Republicans will win in this next, and every election, and some will lose. How is this discrepancy to be explained if the dogma of voting is now that any Republican loss equates to a theft. What about Republican wins?

This is going to get way too convoluted, way too fast for even the best conspiracy theorists in Trump world — and they are legion — to keep up with.

And when does it stop? The laws of political physics decree that in a democratic system the pendulum of power swings back and forth with regularity. In a sane political climate, people understand this. The party in power knows that it will one day be the party out of power and so they act accordingly.

So how, in this brave new world that Trump is cobbling together, can either party ever lay claim to a legitimate election?

The GOP is now the living breathing example of the metaphor “between a rock and a hard place.” If the GOP doesn’t put the Stolen Election fable behind, then it is crippling the election process, possibly beyond its ability to ever recover.

If, however, the GOP does put the 2020 election behind, as all common sense and practicality dictates, then the country can move on and we can still be a democratic republic.

Brooks is sticking to his guns, amazingly, on that premise. Here is what he rebutted Trump’s statement with. It’s absurd, since it blames Mitch McConnell, who has nothing to do with this particular fracas, but at least Brooks still validates walking away from 2020 and that is sound advice.

This is ground zero for the GOP. This isn’t going to just go away. Trump won’t let it. The GOP needs to put this idiocy behind and move forward. But will they? Or will the hallowed Trump Endorsement keep them all shackled to this myth? I guess we’ll find out in November just how powerful the capital “e” Endorsement is.

  1. Somwhere offstage, I see Liz Cheney grabbing a gold gauntlet out of a closet (whose shape will be familiar to MCU fanatics like me) while saying, “Fine…I’ll do it myself.” Any lingering questions about the GOP’s viability just got answered in the negative with all this.

  2. It’s kind of funny how so many of Alabama’s GOPers are bringing up “election security” or “secure elections” (even for positions which have ZERO to do with maintaining election security like member of the US House or Senate or Governor of Alabama) when they completely ignore the fact that Trump won Alabama by a sizable margin (25-percentage points) and GOPers won 3 of their 6 seats by a nearly two-to-one margin, another of their seats by a nearly five-to-one margin and the other two seats with more than 95% (with no Democratic opposition only write-in votes) and its Democratic US senator was voted out by more than 20 percentage points.

But *somehow* Alabama’s electoral process was so flawed that our current batch of GOPers is focusing on it? (Another one of the nuts running for Governor has now made a threat that she will *personally* drive “illegals” to the airport with a “one-way ticket to Mexico”–apparently she’s not going to check what their actual nationality is, she’s just going to fly them to a country which has no legal obligation to take them in. She also hasn’t exactly explained how she’s going to cover the cost of these flights. Is the cost coming from taxpayer money or is she going to personally pay for those tickets herself? She also kind of ignores the fact that any “illegals” will have had to traverse the whole state of Texas or Florida–major GOP strongholds–to have ever managed to get to Alabama; of course, it’s unlikely many “illegals” who crossed through Florida would’ve come from Mexico or any other country from which the undocumented immigrants have originated. Not to mention the state already instituted a law several years ago that was intended to punish undocumented immigrants, requiring them to provide valid documentation of citizenship in order to pay a simple power bill–a law which, incidentally, led to the state’s suddenly having trouble finding enough people to do the kind of work normally connected with “migrant farming.” Even the generally GOP-voting farm owners complained about their losses because of the state’s “draconian” policy.)

    • Well, there’s a simple answer to all that, Joseph: they’re scared. Sure, they can hold off the tide a few more years than the rest of the country but no help is coming that will keep it away forever. So they’re making panic moves, complicated by their own ignorance.

  3. The cat’s meow in all this is how all members in the Republican funny farm are acting like somebody shit in their sandbox, with the felon so obviously DJT, now, his 20 word vocabulary has run totally thin, transparent and useless, still, he persists, time for a committee slam dunk, the popcorn and butter are ready, maybe MO has set the trigger off safety …

I’d love to see what happens when someone pops one of those paper lunch bags behind Trump and one for Putin, they’re both on very thin ice, but for totally different reasons …

  4. Oh, I don’t know. Every time it seems there is undisputable proof of Scrotum’s crimes, he some how still manages to hold sway over the GOP and elude a prison sentence. It depresses me so much I just can’t get excited about any new development because they all fall flat. He’s like Pukin – they won’t go away until they stop breathing.

    • Is it not past time to finally admit that life, crime and punishment are a little more complicated than what you saw on Law And Order? Funny you should mention Putin, who has managed the remarkable feat of destroying two countries–his own included–in the span of a month, something not even Trump could pull off. So perhaps that’s a bad example to cite, given current events.

Speaking of, has it occurred to you that MANY of the delays in “justice” that you demand (which really reads as just a desire for payback with a “rule of law” gloss) may well tie with the invasion of Ukraine? Everything Trump has attempted has tied back to that from the very beginning. Therefore, let us how events play out. Neither man may have got the cathartic end you want but neither have “gotten away” with ANYTHING.
