A quick victory lap to start with. Months ago, when the fake elector scheme broke, and the FBI started throwing out subpoenas for state legislators and local GOP officials involved, I warned you to Stick a pin in the name of one sleazebag Boris Epshteyn. I’ve followed Epshteyn for years, and know what a bottom feeder he is. And now he just got slapped with a DOJ subpoena, and they seized his cell phone with a warrant. Keep that pin in his name, you’re not done with him yet.

Which dovetails perfectly with the main thrust of tonight’s article. It has been widely reported now that in the last week, the DOJ showered somewhere around 40 subpoenas to pretty much everybody who ever talked to Trump. And while they feature former Trump higher mucky-mucks like his former social media director dan Scavino and Icky Epsteyn, the majority of the subpoenas are for lower level staff members, and for a good reason.

Once again, it’s the J6 committee that led the way. In one of their hearings, they highlighted Trump’s flagrant post election fraud in fundraising. He created the save America PAC, with the goal of funding legal efforts to overturn voting results in contested states. But as the J6 investigators proved, there was no legal defense fund to fight the election, it all went into Trump’s Super PAC. Which included more than $250 million raised, $100 million in the first week.

And that is something that the DOJ is now looking into. And in fact, there isn’t much difference between Trump’s scam and the one that’s about to land his former Svengali, Steve Two Shirts Bannon in New York state prison for an extended stay. And Traitor Tot is about to find himself in the same position.

Bannon’s scam was for people to contribute to a private charity, We Build The Wall, and the pleas for lucre swore that not one penny would go into the organizers pockets, every cent would go for the wall. And instead they stuffed their pockets, with Bannon laundering the money through a corporation he created for the purpose.

In Trumpenstein’s case, he begged for cash in order to fund legal challenges to fraudulent election results in key swing states. Instead, he donated more than $1 million to former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows charitable foundation, donations to conservative think tanks with former Trump staffers on the boards, and a hefty chunk to his own resort management company.

Look, all kinds of people ask for donations. The WWF does, the ASPCA does, UNICEF does, the Shriners do, St. Judes does, Wounded Warriors too. But they solicit donations for a specific purpose, and when the donations come in, they are spent for that specific purpose. It’s really not that complicated.

Which is why most prosecutors, state as well as federal, consider these to be slam dunk cases. For the simple reason that everything is right out there in front, already documented. They have easy access to Trump’s email and text blasts, asking for money to fund the defense fund to contest the election. And because it’s a Super PAC, they have access to mandatory FEC filings showing how the money was spent. And none of the Trump Save America PAC money was spent on legal filings to overturn election results.

This is why these subpoenas are so important. They deal mostly with lower level employees, who don’t have the money to afford fancy lawyers to defend them, and as lower level employees, they have less allegiance to Trump than somebody like Scavino or Meadows. But they were In the room, and can testify to what Trump did and said.

Which is all actually icing on the cake. Because the physical evidence Trump raised money from his supporters in order to fight fraudulent elections, and then he used the money for personal purposes. That’s bank fraud and wire fraud right there. And if he used the US Postal Service to solicit funds directly, then that’s mail fraud.

Trump has been scamming for his entire adult life. But as a businessman, he was focused on each scam, thought it out and executed it, and took for granted that nobody would care enough. But in this case, Trump was distracted, he was desperate to find some way, any way to remain President. Which means he got sloppy. And with so much of the necessary information already publicly available, it’s about to cost him. Merrick Garland may be slow, and he may be methodical, but he’s thorough, and so is his DOJ. Don’t touch that dial.

    • Like an alligator on land, a bear tends to roam around and take its time, but when it decides to attack it can ramp up to an incredible speed in seemingly no time at all. And the attack itself once it overtakes its prey? Let’s just say for the prey it’s a proverbial (very) bad day!

  1. Former guy thought he could elevate his con, upon arrival at the White House. The problem is that he has never been so exposed. He can no longer enjoy relatively low-profile situations. Even out of office, he still has a lot of attention to his every move. He lost his cloak of invisibility and he hasn’t yet realized that all his usual tactics aren’t going to work this time.

  2. Karma is about to come back to haunt this grifter. His psycopathic, narcissistic greed for power & money has finally caught up with him. Most of his naive, angry cult doesn’t yet know they’ve simply been used yet, but they’ll get the drift sooner or later. Merrick isn’t fooling around and who can blame him after years of Trump lies and hate, bending the law to suit himself, thinking he can get away with murder, and so far, he has. He incited the gang at the insurrection and people actually died. Who but him, could live with that???
