Oh, noes!! Somebuddy’s fee fees haz a hurt today! Donald Trump issued cease-and-desist letters to the RNC, the NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) and NRSC (National Republican Senatorial Committee,) telling them to forget about using his name and likeness on fundraising emails and merchandise. Now is this schizophrenic or what? At CPAC last week he was the life of the party, literally, going to take it back over and head it up. Today, leave his brand alone, you go get your own brand, GOP.  Politico Playbook:

We reported yesterday that Trump was furious that his name has been bandied about by organizations that help Republicans who voted to impeach him — without his permission. Trump, who made his fortune in licensing, has always been sensitive to how his name has been used to fundraise and support members, even while in office.

On Friday, the RNC sent out two emails asking supporters to donate as a way to add their name to a “thank you” card for Trump. “President Trump will ALWAYS stand up for the American People, and I just thought of the perfect way for you to show that you support him!” the email states. “As one of President Trump’s MOST LOYAL supporters, I think that YOU, deserve the great honor of adding your name to the Official Trump ‘Thank You’ Card.” A follow-up email was sent hours later to “President Trump’s TOP supporters” warning of a deadline of 10 hours to get their names on the card.

None of the committees returned a request for comment. But privately GOP campaign types say it’s impossible not to use Trump’s name, as his policies are so popular with the base. If Trump really wants to help flip Congress, they argue he should be more generous. His team, however, sees this differently.

“President Trump remains committed to the Republican Party and electing America First conservatives, but that doesn’t give anyone – friend or foe – permission to use his likeness without explicit approval,” said a Trump adviser.

Trump made it clear at CPAC that he wasn’t going to start his own party, but if he’s severing ties with the GOP at this level, then how is he going to plausibly be their standard bearer?

Most probably, Trump wants all the money for himself. That’s the logic of the situation. If that’s the case, then he’ll have to start his own party, or, alternatively, maybe he’ll cease fundraising for the GOP and have all the money sent to him, so that he can start his own cable channel or internet venue and selectively endorse his chosen candidates. That’s a likely scenario.

Bear in mind, Michael Cohen said that all Trump really wanted was to get about 20 million of his most faithful cult members to buy a subscription for $6.99 a month or thereabouts to Trump TV or some equivalent and let him continue to live high on the hog. This may be the manifestation of that prediction.

  1. That’s a very strange way of trying to stay a candidate for future office. Unless the former guy really thinks he can start a new party (which would be a lot harder than he thinks).

    • I don’t think he has any interest in forming a new party or running again. I think Michael Cohen nailed it. Cohen said that Trump wanted 20 million or so of his followers to send him money every month so he can be a fat cat. I think it’s as simple as that. He’s going to entertain them with a cable channel or some kind of internet streaming something is my best guess. It will be The Apprentice: Computer Edition or some such.

  2. Yeah, that’s him admitting that he didn’t get his cut or at least not as big a cut as he wants (likely ALL of it). On the one hand, I’m a little surprised by this. On the other, well, they’re the only people he can bully now.
