Yesterday’s Bret Baier interview of Donald Trump is today’s source of reflection and reverie — and put the adjective “risible” in front of those two nouns. At first blush it was bizarre but as of 24 hours later, it’s pretty much going down in the history books as one of the most amazing interviews not only of Trump, but ever to be conducted on Fox News.
Simply, Trump got sucker punched. He came in expecting a softball, preferably a stuffed softball covered in velvet, level of interview and instead what he got was an actual prepared host who asked him real questions. Trump was not expecting that and it showed.
The interview has since been dissected by every political pundit in media, none of whom can believe how his lawyers allowed him to speak on air about the cases he’s involved in. But what I found intriguing was his commentary about his family’s lack of involvement in his reelection campaign being his idea and also he doesn’t seem to have any idea who his son Eric is.
Asked by Fox News’ Brett Baier during an interview that aired in part on Monday if Ivanka or Jared would be coming back for another stint in Washington, Trump responded, “I said, that’s enough for the family. You know why? It’s too painful for the family.” He added, “Nobody has been through what my family has been through,” complaining that Ivanka had been “making a fortune” with a “really successful line of clothing” before becoming one of his advisers, and then felt compelled to “[close] it up.”
(Trump did not mention that sales had been down at the company prior to Ivanka closing up shop.) The ex-president separately suggested people should feel badly for Eric Trump, who went from getting great grades to getting subpoenas. “He’s a fine young man, good student, good everything. Comes in, we’re doing beautifully,” Trump said. “Then I decide to run for president. I mean, I don’t think anybody in the world in history has ever had more subpoenas sent to him.”
Subpoenas? Sent to Eric? Could he be thinking “some penis?” I don’t doubt that something unusual, probably quite a lot, has come Eric’s way but he’s not all that involved in litigation. Not since he got busted stealing from the children’s cancer “charity.” Surprise, the Trump family can’t conduct charities in the State of New York, isn’t that a wonder?
But Trump is confused about Eric. Eric will be 40 years old in six months. How is he “a fine young man?” I suppose that 39 is young relative to 77, yes, but the reference to “good student” is about 20-25 years out of date if it ever was factual that Eric was a good student. Maybe he’s got him confused with Barron? Who knows?
So now we know the Trump family won’t be involved in any possible future administration. But here’s who else won’t be involved, if you haven’t already seen this clip, which is headed towards five million views as we speak.

There you have it, the Trump administration summarized in under two minutes. And cobbled together by the team at Fox News, no less. Yes, life is incredible. Particularly in Trump world.
I suspect trump would like to forget eric exists. Come to think of it, he’d probably shed no tears if Jr. was out of the picture. I’m afraid if it isn’t the daughter he wants to boink, he just doesn’t give a sh*t or acknowledge their existence.
I’s imagine he forgets Eric all the time. Don Jr. is someone Trump seriously wishes he could forget but Junior keeps popping up on social media trying to earn some love from dad. Or at least a nod of approval if they cross paths at Mar A Lago, or I guess Bedminstre these days.
This is a narcissistic father. Yvanka is the Golden Child. The other two – meh. If he could blame Don Jr for everything – I think he would if he could get away with it.
