Monday Monday, can’t trust that day, not when it continually brings yet another new and awful poll. Last week Donald Trump was trailing Joe Biden by 10 points, today CNN put the figure at 14, and you know those Fox pollsters are cut throats, right? It’s getting to where a guy’s afraid to turn on the TV set anymore. In all events, Trump is fed up with all this bad news and so he’s thinking of doing a little housecleaning. Vanity Fair:

According to a source close to the White House, Trump has mulled taking oversight of the campaign away from his son-in-law Jared Kushner. “Trump is malignantly crazy about the bad poll numbers,” a former West Wing official said. “He’s going to broom Kushner and [Brad] Parscale—the numbers are not getting better,” a Republican close to the campaign said.

Long before the reelection campaign went sideways, Trump frequently blew up at Kushner. For instance, former West Wing officials recall how Trump hated when Kushner received too much positive press (In January, Trump was rankled when Kushner’s portrait graced the cover of Time). “Any time Jared is in the papers, Trump complains, ‘We have to get Jared back to New York!’” said a Republican who heard Trump make the comment. In the end, the source cautioned that Trump won’t push Kushner out. “This is typical with him and Jared,” the source said.

The polling has gotten worse because Trump still hasn’t figured out how to handle the politics of the protest movement sparked by the police killing of George Floyd. Axios reported the campaign is debating whether Trump should talk about national unity.

By all means, he should talk about national unity. Trump’s got only one setting and that’s attack mode, but he’s going to change that and talk unity, right? Of course he is. And perhaps we could get Harvey Weinstein to talk about creating a constructive atmosphere in the work place. And maybe Jeffrey Epstein’s ghost can come back and rattle its chains and give us an inspirational talk about the benefits of living an exemplary life and how virtue is its own reward? Why, we could set up a weekly panel of these things, from now until November 3, doncha think? All in favor, raise your hands.

As to who could take over Kushner and Parscale’s jobs, especially five months before the election, candidates for the positions are a trifle sparse, shall we say? Incredible as it may seem, nobody wants to be the one to guarantee a turn around to Trump and then not be able to deliver it. Imagine that?

Mike Pence tried to get Nick Ayers, his chief of staff to come on board and he said, uh uh, he’s saving himself for Nicky Haley’s campaign. Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie are already in the mix and they might take other positions within the campaign, but no specifics have been specified yet. Think of rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, and you have the only image you need.

Five more months, twenty more weeks, anything can happen. Just ask Donald Trump. He certainly had a different picture for where he would be right now, with the roar of the greasepaint and the smell of the crowd at a MAGA rally. Nope. Not even close. That vision has been replaced with the reality of the roar of protesters and the smell of tear gas, as approval numbers and polls plummet, reflecting both the economy and the national mood. And poor Donald Trump. None of this is his fault. Just like he said.

  1. You can talk about kittens, unicorns and tip-toeing through the tulips, but the cold hard truth is that it isn’t going to work….the toothpaste is out of the tube and everyone already knows that you’re an azzhole.

    *smirk*

    • “I’ll give the land a little shock,/Remember what I say,/And they’ll yet regret they sent Jim Jones,/In chains to Botany Bay.”

  2. The news reported today that he plans on resuming rallies in the coming weeks. We will see how that goes. I agree, though, there is nothing he can do at this point to change the course of events.

  3. I keep seeing the image of max with an ill fitted oversized crown stomping thru the forest where the wild things are.

  4. I think Parsquale was already on thin ice because of news not long ago about how much he was grifting from the Trump campaign. Trump is counting on putting a shitload of that PAC/Super PAC money into his own pocket. Stephen Colbert showed us how easy it is to do with his old show on Comedy Central. Anyway Trump has probably been furiously berating his inner circle to find someone else to run his data operations since the news broke about Parsquale’s grifting

    • Yeah, good luck with that. Five months out and he’s looking…it’s a mistake to treat the Titanic like it’s a speedboat.
