Thomas Lane, one of the officers involved in the arrest of George Floyd the night he was killed, is trying to play good cop to Derek Chauvin’s bad cop. Lane is seeking to get charges against himself dismissed because the transcripts show that he asked Chauvin twice to reposition Floyd and Chauvin said no. NPR:

As officer Derek Chauvin had Floyd pinned under his knee, face-down to the pavement and complaining that he could not breathe, Lane, who was holding Floyd’s legs, asked Chauvin whether the suspect should be moved.

Floyd: My face is getting it bad.

Lane: Here, should we get his legs up, or is this good?

Chauvin: Leave him.

And, again, as Floyd is heard speaking for the last time:

Floyd: Ah! Ah! Please. Please. Please.

Lane: Should we roll him on his side?

Chauvin: No, he’s staying put where we got him.

Lane: Okay. I just worry about the excited delirium or whatever.

Chauvin: Well that’s why we have the ambulance coming.

Lane: Okay, I suppose.

Shortly after that exchange someone in the crowd gathered nearby notices that Floyd isn’t breathing. The officers subsequently confirm that he’s non-responsive.

Whether Lane’s charges are dismissed or not is one issue, but an entirely different issue is how damning this is to Chauvin. He either intended to kill Floyd or he flat out didn’t give a damn whether he did or not. Lane’s attorney thinks that the court should allow the video from the body cams to be seen in its entirety.

  1. I just listened to  Lawrence O’Donnell  read the transcript. He was crying by the end.

This thing with cops and Republicans is just another example of their treason. I consider any intentional subversion or perversion of the Constitution as making war on this country. They have made the 4th Amendment null and void and thus cops love Republicans.

    • Fifth amendment – the cops are acting as judge, jury, and punisher. (“nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law”)

    • We were watching the same thing and my wife was crying harder than Lawrence. It’s cuz Lawrence is that rare thing in today’s USA – a human being with a soul.

  2. Excellent advice. We will see if they heed it, or if any of this occurs to them, since I don’t know if they read your blog………..livejumps.com
