THIS Is Why The 1/6 Committee Is So Important

There has been a whole lot of teen angst coming out of the pundits lately, shit it’s like listening to a Nirvana CD. They worry and obsess that Trump and his supporters obstruction will delay critical information from getting through until aft er the Democrats lose the House, and the GOP shuts everything down. That’s for my next article, but for now, they can decompress and breathe into a paper bag.

Because while it is critical for us to get as complete and comprehensive of a report of the events leading up and through that day, both for historical reference to stop a repeat event, as well as a way of apportioning culpability and blamer, there is a much greater purpose. The truth must come out! After all, what’s the old saying?, And the truth shall set you free?

The truth is going to come out long before any final report is issued. We know this because the co chairs of the committee, Benny Thompson and Liz Cheney have already announced that in the coming weeks, there will be a series of televised public hearings into their investigation and findings to date. And properly done, these hearings will be much more devastating to Trump and the GOP than the final report.

Here’s why. ABC News just released the results of a poll that they conducted, and the results aren’t good for the GOP. The poll found that

68% of Americans see the January 6th insurrection as a sign of a rising tide of potential politically motivated violence in this country, while only 32% felt that it was an isolated incident

That is a startling result, because 68% means that there is a healthy chunk of Republican and independent voters out there that worry that politically motivated violence is potentially on the rise. Now ask yourself one simple question. Since January 6th, which party has emphatically condemned the violent assault on our democracy and Capitol, and which party has consistently tried to downplay the violence, going so far as to try to martyr the perpetrators, and label them patriots?

And in the coming weeks, the 1/6 committee is going to start hanging all of that filthy laundry out in public. And because, likely like the impeachment hearings that preceded them, these are official hearings, and will be carried by the networks as public service programming.

There will be nowhere for McCarthy and his Merry Mental Midgets to hide. The committee will set up and show a meticulous timeline, with tons of withering footage of hand to hand combat between rioters and police, and intersperse that with testimony of dozens of witnesses who have already voluntarily showed up to testify, along with their documents. And for a lighter touch, they can show video of idiot incumbents blithely comparing the Capitol riot to a normal Rotunda tour day, and then defending themselves when confronted by Democrats in other committee hearings.

And all of this is going to be exquisitely timed to flow out like the tide throughout the primaries and well into the summer general election campaign. And there’s no way for the GOP to defend itself. Because other than Cheney, and Kinzinger and some other incumbents who are retiring, rather than to endure the stench, the rest of the party has fallen lock step into glorifying an insurrection that scares the shit out of more than half of the country.

Democrats can start their speeches and rallies by invoking 1/6, and then launch into attacks against opponents who have spoken out in favor of it, or instead highlight GOP state legislative voting efforts that make it easier for empty headed thugs like the Loud Toys and the Oath Creepers to intimidate and threaten polling places as monitors and observers. 

Most analysts are now saying that the 2021 redistricting show is basically going to be a wash, the GOP isn’t going to get what it wanted. And The Cook Report shows 60-70 competitive or highly competitive districts what will decide the House. And properly done, this can be an extremely effective line of attack in most of them. And even cranial defectives like Ron Johnson, Rand Paul, and even Li’l Marco Rubio are going to have some explaining to do. And Val Demmings is just the one to put the screws to Rubio.

Here’s how I see it. If the Democrats play this right, thanks to Traitor Tot, and his slobbering mob, for the first time in generations, the GOP literally gave the mantle of the Law and Order Party to the Democrats in their response to the insurrection. We may as well take advantage of it.
