Well, congress may be on a two week vacation, but the J6 Committee sure as shit isn’t. Granted, at the moment, most if not all of the members are back home in their districts, enjoying the long holiday weekend. But the committee staffers and investigators sure aren’t on vacation, and the committee members are keeping in touch with them.
Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony changed everything. I believe it was on ABC this morning, but GOP Representative Adam Kinzinger was answering questions. At one point the host asked him, Are you still getting new witnesses before the committee, and will we be hearing from them? Kinzinger just smiled, nodded his head, and said, In a word, yes. We are getting new witnesses almost daily, and you will be hearing from some of them, either live or on video, in future hearings.Â
Call me cynical, but I can’t help but wondering, since Liz Cheney directly referenced Witness Intimidation in her closing statement, said that there were more than just the two cases she cited, that the committee knew who they were, and were dealing with it, how many of these new penitents are scurrying off to confession to try to avoid being charged with Witness Tampering. And whom are they willing to give up.
As I explained previously, the main reason that the possibility of charging some of his cohorts with Witness Tampering is the fact that, by design, the law is purposely broad. If I knew somebody about to go before a grand jury or congressional committee, I wouldn’t give them the time of day, even if they were my best friend. Simply because it doesn’t matter what you think you’re saying, if the witness feels pressured, intimidated, or coerced, you’re in the shit.
And who knows that these people will say when they come clean? This is why Jim Jordan doesn’t leave the house, Rudy Giuliani doesn’t know whether to shit, go blind, or wind his watch, Bannon is getting ready to go to trial later this month, Peter Navarro is in the wings, and like Saddam Hussein, Mark Meadows is hiding out in a sewer pipe. If the j6 hearings have shown nothing else, they have shown that Trump is truly The Emperor with no clothes. He left his clout behind on January 20th, 2021.
And here’s the best part. The reason that all of these former high fliers are going underground and measuring their waist sizes for Depends is because it’s Not. Trump’s. DOJ. Anymore. This is Merrick Garland’s DOJ. And he has spent the last year and a half restoring the dignity, professionalism, pride, and sense of purpose to an office that was decimated under 4 years of Trump. And those career staffers and prosecutors would give their collective legy nuts to get some payback.
Here’s the way I see it. The J6 committee is under a timeline, but it isn’t a brutal timeline. They want to have their final written report out sometime in September, or early October at the latest, to give it the maximal midterm election effect. The live, in person hearings have to wrap up in time for them to do that.
But here’s the catch. As I wrote earlier, if these guys are as smart as I think they are, they’ve already been working on the initial draft of the report with what they have from each hearing. If they need to update it, hell, that’s what copy and paste is for. Right now, there are two more hearings scheduled for the 3rd week of July. But if what Kinzinger says is true, there are more witnesses coming forward, and at least some of them will be heard from in hearings. the committee could easily add 1-2 more hearings, and still be done by the 2nd week of august, with most of the previous testimony already in draft form for the final report.
As WC Fields would say, Strap yourselves in, my little chickadees, there are thrills-and-chills yet to come from these J6 hearings. And none of them are going to make Traitor Tot a happy camper. Don’t touch that dial.
