Holy Rejection, Batman! This is a slap in the face if ever there was one. Matt Gaetz had previously spoken with Newsmax about working over there as a talking head, because that’s where he really belongs, on right-wing TV as opposed to the halls of congress, and they just just turned him down Monday, according to Reuters:

“Newsmax has had no plans to hire Rep. Gaetz,” said Brian Peterson, a spokesperson for the website.

A source familiar with Newsmax’s policies said: “Earlier this year, (Gaetz) reached out and said he might leave Congress early and was interested in TV work.”

The three-term Florida congressman’s approach to Newsmax management was “just a conversation” and Newsmax “never told him we were interested” in hiring him, the source said.

If you can’t sell it to Newsmax, where else is there to go? Forget Fox. If Gaetz had Fox on the line, he wouldn’t be looking to Newsmax in the first place. That leaves OAN, one supposes.

But of course the issue really is, why would Gaetz be looking for employment as anything other than the job he’s in, unless like so many other people who know that the jig is up, go looking for another lily pad to hop to, so that they can save face?

This is a very interesting turn of events. Gaetz may be like the frog, who’s been in the water so long that he finally boils.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. The question that’s been on my mind for several hours now is why did Newsmax say anything at all? They only announced it earlier today, but the actual discussion took place some time ago. Gaetz went hat in hand to them and they said no. Again, since no one but Gaetz and perhaps one or two people in his camp knew this had taken place, and probably only two or three people at Newsmax why did they say anything at all. And why now? Is it possible they know something that we don’t, as in the shoe is about to clobber Gaetz over the head? It’s not like many of their readers wouldn’t have like having Gaetz bloviating on Newsmax. They really, really wanted nothing to do with him even though he’d have surely boosted their bottom line. Hell, if/when charges are brought they’d probably make even more money off the guy!

So for me at least it’s interesting to ponder just why Newsmax decided to go public with having told Gaetz to fuck off.
