Remember watching an actor on television go down in flames in some series that got cancelled and then reincarnate in another show the next season? We are now observing the political version of that phenomenon. We had a real shit show called Iran Contra back in the day, starring a political actor named Oliver North and now North has returned to haunt us in a new horror show called Trump World: An Alternate Universe.
Unfortunately for us, this isn’t taking place on a sound stage, it is all too real. Oliver North was recently elected the head of the National Rifle Association and he told none other than Fox News, who else, how the problem is not guns (what else?) but it is kids on drugs. Yessir, that’s what the man said. Here’s a transcript.
The problem that we got is we are trying like the Dickens to treat the symptom without treating the disease.
And the disease in this case isn’t the Second Amendment. The disease is youngsters who are steeped in a culture of violence. They have been drugged in many cases. Nearly all of these perpetrators are male and they are young teenagers in most cases.
And they have come through a culture where violence is commonplace. All you need to do is turn on the TV, go to a movie. If you look at what has happened to the young people, many of these young boys have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten.
Now, I am certainly not a doctor, I’m a Marine, but I can see those kinds of things happening…
Not that North isn’t an expert on guns and drugs. Au contraire. He was running heavy quantities of both munitions and cocaine in Central America to fund the Nicaraguan Contras long before the kids he’s diagnosing were even born, so he oughtta know. That’s not the laughable part of this. The laughable part is that North, while decrying a culture of violence, has no solution for that self-same violent culture other than — you guessed it — more guns. The NRA has a program named School Shield and you’ve already heard the gist of it from the lips of that cretin Lt. Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick the other day, talking about how many doors were in the school.
“It’s a program, the NRA introduced it two years ago,” North said. “It’s a—we’ll go do an assessment, costs the school nothing, costs the taxpayers nothing to get the assessment, as to what the issues are in terms of ingress, egress, the ability to hide a firearm and get them into a school. The number of officers you really need.”
So, friends, all we need to do is pack the schools with armed guards and plenty of guns and our children will be growing up in a police state, at least from 8:30 to 2:30 for most of their first 18 years or so and what could possibly go wrong with that? See, it’s all about getting your head right, you don’t need to control guns, you need to control hall traffic. That’s your issue. Whatever you do, don’t focus on guns, unless to increase their presence. Texas Governor Greg Abbott will show you how.

So there you have it, the funerals are just starting to take place and Governor Abbott is giving away a shotgun. The first step to curing this horrendous sociological nightmare is voting these NRA bought politicians out of office. All of them. Texas is a great place to start.
