I’m sure this story will work its way into a new conspiracy theory in right-wing world, but for now the plain fact of the matter is that Mellissa Carone, a real life person who was so bizarre that she instantly transformed into a Saturday Night Live cold open, messed up her paperwork for the Michigan state House and she’s now off the ballot. Deadline Detroit:

Carone submitted a faulty affidavit attesting that she had no outstanding campaign finance issues. She has been crossed off Macomb County’s online election list for the Aug. 2 primary and labeled as “disqualified.” Macomb Clerk Anthony Forlini alerted Carone to the disqualification.

The political novice, now 35 and living in Grosse Pointe Woods, testified in 2020 with attorney Rudy Giuliani before a state House committee about bogus voter fraud claims.

She told The [Detroit] News the ruling was “ridiculous.”

Carone said Friday she’s lawyering up to fight the disqualification, claiming Macomb County staffers advised her to sign the affidavit because it likely wouldn’t be submitted to the Michigan Bureau of Elections until the end of the week, after she’d resolved her campaign finance issues.

Carone has been vowing to run for the state House almost since the smoke cleared from her fameball explosion following the 2020 election. She announced she would seek a seat in whatever district she landed in following a move from Allen Park and redistricting. She declared first for the 46th in Oakland County, then the 60th in Macomb.

In November 2020, she worked at the TCF Center in Detroit where election ballots were counted. She later testified about unfounded fraud before the state House committee in Lansing with Giuliani.

I’ll share with you an anecdote which is personally amusing. We did a piece on this site about the woman who Trump endorsed over Nancy Mace, in South Carolina. In it was the comment that “she even makes Mellissa Carone look good.” Then this appeared in the comments thread.

Now we get people here all the time with strange handles. But on a hunch, I asked our intrepid moderator, Denis, to check the IP address for this comment. He said it tracked to Grosse Pointe, Michigan, which is apparently where Carone lives. I find that incredibly difficult to believe. It’s a high end suburb and why is she doing Facebook posts from under the bed in a high end suburb? And if she had the money to live in a wealthy community, what was she doing on a temp job cleaning fax machines, which is where she met Rudy?

I have no answers. But Carone piques my curiosity. Let’s see if this becomes a new conspiracy theory, the Deep State plot to keep Carone from running, because we all live in abject fear of her hyper competence. I will be watching.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. If she had waited until AFTER she cleared up the issues (presuming she actually could and would) then why didn’t she hold off until they WERE cleared?

She made a false declaration – end of story

    • Pathological liars believe their own lies since their brains operate in an echo chamber. Remember when the earth was flat? The moon was made of cheese? WE were the center of the universe? Black people were happy to be slaves? Jesus is on the verge of coming back? Trump is a follower of Christ? The 2020 election was stolen? God, the stupidity has no basement.

      • I vividly remember when the earth was flat, because I met a guy in 2013 who believed that it was. And I made a friend in 2014 and she confided in me one day that her husband was a flat earther. These people are among us, sadly. This idiocy is among us.

  2. Seems to be a bit of that going around. Here in Oregon we had Nick Kristol return to the state from writing for the NY Times, to run for governor. Even though his family is from here and he owns a farm here, he hadn’t actually been in residing in state long enough to qualify per the rules. He disputed the findings with the state, but eventually capitulated. I was glad. Something felt off about his campaign, like he was a Trojan Horse, not really a Dem, but someone wanting to get their foot in the door of this Blue state. We have a couple other candidates running for our new district that give off this same vibe. No one’s ever heard of them, one is backed by a crypto currency billionaire and is filling the airwaves with his ads and our mailboxes with large, glossy ads, and they both are using the same line to introduce themselves: how they came from poverty and had to raise themselves, how they’ve gone on to succeed, etc etc. I think there are going to be a lot of these false players. R’s will do ANYTHING to win, even pretend to be Dems if that’s what it takes. Keep your eyes and ears open!

  3. Interesting that you tracked her IP address to Grosse Pointe since that is not even in “her” district, so she lies yet again. She didn’t pay her fines (which she now owes $1k), she hasn’t filed all her proper campaign finance reports, there is $20k missing in the reports she did filed, she has yet to pay back an over payment from a donor, and now you reveal she doesn’t even physically reside in the district, which is the law. She must be taking a page out of the MI Governor’s book, the law is for thee and not for me. (Btw it is a felony in Michigan to sign the affidavit of identity and not have all your campaign finance squared away).

  4. I read elsewhere she said she’s moved to ‘Macomb’. There is no town/village named Macomb specifically. There’s Macomb County, there’s Macomb township(which is in Macomb county).
I live in Michigan, so I know.
She’s lying like a typical Repub.
