‘Ignore Guns, Talk Inflation’: Intercepted GOP Memo Advises No Comments on Guns

RollingStone Magazine got its grubby little journo hands on a talking points memo circulating the slime tunnel maze of Republican pols, pundits, double-talkers and liars (and Yahoo News republished their article sans paywall below) advising that GOP candidates “wait out” the nation’s current heartbreak of mountains of shot up bodies chocking our morgues and medical examiners offices’ and instead talk about rising prices, and deceitfully accuse Democrats of gun confiscation and grabbing… which NO ONE is even remotely proposing.

Yahoo News

“Stay cool. Run out the clock. Scare some gun nuts while you can. But don’t worry: this moment will be over soon.

That’s the message the Republican Party, Donald Trump, and conservative leaders rapidly coalesced around after a series of mass shootings in recent weeks, including at one at a Texas elementary school.

Several strategy memos and private communications, prepared for a variety of conservative candidates and organizations, reviewed by Rolling Stone in the days following the Uvalde school massacre were clear: change the topic to literally anything else, and let this news cycle run its course.”

Yes, by all means, scare some gun nuts into fearing that their precious little loved ones will be threatened – as their children pull on bullet proof vests for school.

At some point one would think that even for the most hardened gun fetishists, the lives of their kids might outweigh imaginary, non-existent threats of gun confiscation by those oh so scary Democrats, but apparently we haven’t arrived in that happy time time quite yet…

“My advice to any Republican candidate would be to not let the moment dictate any political action that may have unintended consequences that leads to widespread gun confiscation,” says Steven Cheung, a political operative advising GOP candidates in 2022 House and Senate races. “Defend the Second Amendment because that’s where the base is, but offer tangible solutions like hardening of schools and more funding for mental health.”

Yeah, Mr. Cheung, by all means, let us begin a ten-year? trillion? dollar Marshall Plan of re-engineering America’s 130,000+ schools at the very time that existing ones are being assaulted every week.

And identifying and treating those who suffer the very specific clusterfuck of derangements that would cause them to murder first graders by the dozen… well, that will be a snap!

Higher food and fuel prices are absolutely issues that must be addressed in the coming election, though we can be sure that Republicans will offer no tangible solution solutions besides their oft prescribed remedies of deregulation and tax cuts.

We can only hope that their willingness, no, eagerness, to turn a blind eye to the murder of our children will at last become a decisive issue.

  1. Inflation is a problem because oil is what this world runs on.
But guns have killed dozens in the last week alone, and those deaths didn’t have to happen. Those deaths are on the GOP and its co-owner the NRA.

  2. Inflation is not unique to America. It is a,worldwide problem.
You know what are unique to America ? Mass murder of children.
Maybe we need to worry more about dead kids than about gas prices which are set by Big Oil and which politicians cannot control. We COULD do something about mass shootings, though.

  3. I keep posting this FACT.

The leading cause of DEATH to CHILDREN in the USA today is gunshot.

NO other country has a statistic like this- including ones at war like Yemen and Ukraine.

How can our children, our future, be safer in an ACTUAL war somewhere, than at home, or school?

There are two sides in this.

You are on the side of the child-killers, or the children.

    What side are you on?

  4. You can’t be prolife and support the gun laws as written. I pointed that out to one of my alleged friends and needless to say, he won’t talk to me anymore. No loss, he’s been an ass to me for quite awhile. Good riddance to a trump addicted man.
