Politics has long been a game of smoke and mirrors, but Donald Trump and his machinations raise all that to a level that is surreal on steroids. We saw this week the big drama about how Trump dumped Mo Brooks, purportedly because of a “woke” comment that Brooks made many months previous. Brooks, for his part, is taking the stand that he has been victimized for telling Trump the plain truth that it was “impossible to rescind” the election. Both men are liars and they’re each telling a self serving version of the facts. Surprise, surprise.

The key fact to focus on here is that the “woke” statement which so aroused Trump’s ire took place in August, 2021. Yet it’s taken him until now to have a change of heart towards Brooks? Here’s what’s going on. Commentary via Raw Story:

Poll reveals the real reason Trump dumped his former ally.

Alabama pundits have been speculating about when Trump was going to drop the hammer based purely on Brooks’ dismal numbers.

Brooks is polling a distant third.

Trump endorsed Brooks in April 2021 while Brooks still had a substantial lead. Since that time, Brooks has sunk precipitously.

The congressman went from 40 percent in August to a mere 16 percent today, a slide Alabama Daily News publisher Todd Stacey called “incredible.” And this three-way race is likely to end in a runoff.

Even if Brooks made it that far, polling suggests he’d be unlikely to pick up enough support to win. He’s been outspent and out-campaigned. His bid to represent Alabama in the Senate is dead in the water.

While Trump remains the undisputed leader of the Republican Party and the overwhelming favorite to win the presidential nomination in 2024, a primary endorsement from Trump isn’t the electoral golden ticket it used to be. Trump-endorsed candidates are also struggling in Georgia, North Carolina and Idaho.

The notion that uber-lacky Mo Brooks has been cast out for standing up to Trump is preposterous on its face, but the narrative serves both men’s interests.

Trump wants to maintain his reputation as a kingmaker within the Republican Party, so admitting that he’s dropping Brooks because he’s losing would defeat the purpose.

Brooks wants to make it seem like he’s being dropped because he took a principled stand when the truth is he’s being cast aside because he’s a loser.

And we know Donald Trump hates losers.

Now here’s your comic relief for the morning. Kelli Ward has shown up in Alabama to save Mo Brooks. The fantasy continues.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream. And so is Brooks plans to go to the Senate.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. Yeah, the midterms are going to be a bloodbath for the GQP. Seriously, Brooks should have asked the exiled Keebler Elf Sessions how well Trump’s support works out.

  2. Oh for the good ole days … ” the exiled Keebler Elf Sessions “, now THERE is a picture for posterior preservation …

Whenever we can be amused by the earliest fails of a so-called, “Presidential Term”, we admit that Trump has burned nearly every bridge in the US, the huge chain with connected anchor he is fighting guarantees a failing GOP, even if they try harder to stand away from his continued antics and mindless, bad hair days …

Who the heck still works with/for him? I suppose someone able to siphon a great portion of donor’s money to the Trump fund for reelection will survive until idiot Trump figures out who is really getting, “HIS MONEY”, …

More popcorn on order, Reaper Drones for Ukraine? Don’t forget a few dozen hellfire missiles, no place to hide, especially if a few silos/rail units in Russia, somehow vaporize …

  3. Um, as an Alabamian, I feel a bit more qualified to speak on the Brooks situation. (I went to Raw Story to see who wrote the piece and some kind of biographical material to see the author’s qualifications but couldn’t find anything on that. But I digress . . . .)

So what if Brooks doesn’t have the Trump “endorsement?” Big friggin’ deal.

Both his opponents continue to push a Trumpian narrative (recent ads by a pro-Katie Britt PAC have used some of Brooks’ speeches from 2016 criticizing Trump–something that wouldn’t happen if Britt didn’t tacitly support Trump herself).

And other GOP candidates, running for all other offices, are trying to out-Trump the others.

  4. Who the heck would vote for this guy when he already fumbled the Green Bay Pass from the Donald but then he couldn’t shut up about it. Who the hell could be so ultra dumb as to waste a vote for this doofuss?
