“Oh, what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day, Republicans decide they hate Bobo, they’re throwing her ass in the hay.” TIME Magazine is breaking an exclusive story. The last Republican governor of Colorado, Bill Owens, has made the decision that he’s had it with Lauren Boebert’s slutty ways and he’s leading a group of old school Republicans to oust her. Between the Democratic candidate Adam Frisch outraising her and her own party turning on her, color Bobo gone.

“I am proud to endorse Jeff Hurd for U.S. Congress for the 3rd district,” says former Colorado Governor Bill Owens, the last Republican to lead the state, in a statement provided exclusively to TIME. “Jeff is a man of character. He is a hardworking, smart and sincere leader who will deliver for the district.”

The endorsement from Owens, who served from 1999 until 2007, is the most prominent of a handful of Republican officials who have recently announced their support for Hurd, with several citing Boebert’s Beetlejuice scandal as the moment that pushed them over the edge.

“Just after the congresswoman’s issues at the theater, I just decided that we had to do something different,” says Delta County Commissioner Don Suppes, who knew of Hurd but didn’t know him personally before endorsing him this month. “So I started reaching out and trying to make sure that we had the right person in that seat for the next election.”

It’s actually sad that it took the night at the theater to make this decision because Boebert’s incompetence is the issue, way above her indiscretion and lack of class. But hey, if her sluttiness is what gets her gone. Fine. Who cares what the rationale of Colorado Republicans is, just as long as they’re doing the right thing, which is bouncing her out of politics?

And even people who approved of Bobo before have given up, Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis being one of them.

“I’ve defended Lauren for [two-and-a-half] years now, hoping that things would improve and she’d become a more effective leader,” Davis wrote. “I think she was about to round that corner, and I was complimentary of that, but what she did at Beetlejuice was altogether indefensible.”

Davis says he’s received some criticism from Republicans for refusing to forgive Boebert, but he insists character matters in politics. Fellow Mesa County Commissioner Bobbie Daniel agrees, adding that Boebert’s performance in the county last year raises questions about her ability to hold on to the seat in 2024.

“In the previous election cycle, I received over [4,000] more votes than the sitting Congressional Representative,” Daniel wrote in an email to TIME. “This showed that conservatives are voting, and thousands did not vote for the incumbent; that’s a problem.”

Daniel also attributed her decision to endorse Hurd to Boebert’s “latest round of self-inflicted wounds.” “We have to face the fact we can’t keep going on this trajectory and keep this seat,” she said.

That’s exactly right, but I think they may be too late. Boebert’s Beetlejuice theatrics ended up becoming a major news story, dominating that week’s news cycle as it kept developing and kept getting worse. It even made the world news. All that publicity devolved to the benefit of Democrat Adam Frisch. Frisch pulled in $3.4 million in Q3 and he’s got a lot of steam behind his campaign. I think he’s going to flip that seat without a problem, considering the fact that he only lost by 546 votes the last time.

Now it’s time for some comic relief from Boebert’s campaign manager.

Drew Sexton, Boebert’s campaign manager, says in a statement that Boebert “has the support of grassroots conservatives and 3rd District voters because they’ve seen the substantive work she’s doing for them in Congress.

“From leading the fight to impeach Joe Biden to the seven bills on local 3rd District issues like water and rural economic development she’s gotten passed through at least a House committee, voters know Rep. Boebert is producing results,”…

Let’s fix it for the man, shall we? “From wasting time in a specious fantasy that Joe Biden did something impeachable to giving lip service to bills which somebody else drafted (because Bobo can barely read) the congresswoman has accomplished nothing in her two terms in office, other than a lot of appearances on TV and many tweets — before making international news groping her date at the theater. The most high profile result she generated in Washington, was missing the vote on the debt ceiling because she was out screwing around doing something else.”

That’s an honest assessment of Bobo’s career in Congress.

Hurd is campaigning as something of an anti-Boebert, stressing that he would work across the aisle on water and agriculture issues in a way that the incumbent can’t. But he also admits that what happened in the theater in Denver last month is impossible to ignore.

“I think that it’s one of a number of things that people have seen as a spark,” Hurd says. “And that I think, for a number of people, that was the last straw.”

If it took the embarrassing night at the Denver theater to wake these people up to the fact that that congressional seat is in the hands of somebody egregiously unqualified, then again, fine. It takes what it takes. But the reality of the situation is that Ted Cruz encouraged Boebert to run because he saw her as “a bomb thrower” Sarah Palin lite, i.e., a photogenic female GOP talking head who makes headlines with her stupidity and that is all she’s done since she was elected. Since Cruz doesn’t represent his constituents either and spends all his time podcasting and tweeting, it makes complete sense that he would perceive elected office as a public relations gig and nothing more and encourage a lightweight flake like Boebert to get involved in politics, too.

If we’re incredibly lucky, we could wake up the day after election day and both Bobo and Cruz would be gone. And what a beautiful morning that would be. Now is the time to work towards it for sure.

  1. Hey Boobert…I’m not your campaign manager, but I have an idea where you can really use your ‘skills’ to turn this around. Since the republican party is full of horny old men who rarely, if ever, get laid anymore…go to Walmart…get some knee pads…visit each of the offices of these boys…and SHOW THEM A GOOD TIME. Hurd, nor anyone else has the…er…BODY…er… of work to compete with that. You can thank me later…wink wink! Your welcome.

  2. In my excitement I missed typed ‘your’ instead of ‘you’re’. See how easily you can affect a man’s reality? Act while age is on you’re side, and things haven’t literally slid south.

    • Well I would politely say your third leg might have been bumping the keyboard. Understandable, she does have all the right stuff in the right spots. Problem might be her try to talk. Won’t go into that but it’s about right time and wrong time. Ursula might get mad at me if I explain.

  3. “…perceive elected office as a public relations gig and nothing more…”

Therein lies the problem. Too many of them actually think that IS the job description.

    *******

Scott, thanks for the correction. One less fingernails on a blackboard day for us all! 🙂

  4. The one thing that stood out was the statement from CO’s former guv-“character matters in politics”. That isn’t even always true for the dems but it is no longer true, at all, for the ‘pubes. There are no ‘pubes in the house who do not support a man with less character than your common bedbug. They support, wholeheartedly, a man who does nothing but lie, cheat (in biz and in marriage), and steal. That’s not character or at least it isn’t the character former guv is referring to.

It’s all to the good the house will be sans Bobo soon. Replacing her however with another magat does not help the citizens of CO’s 3rd. The house needs to be fumigated-the voting kind of fumigation necessary to rid it of magats.

    • “Davis says he’s received some criticism from Republicans for refusing to forgive Boebert, but he insists character matters in politics. ”

And yet he’s still a republican.

    • Thank you! When I read that all I could think was ‘I’m CERTAIN this loon voted for AND supports tantrumthinskin who has ZERO PERSONAL CHARACTER.” to me, that shows that the ‘personal character matters’ guy is a hypocrite and has no personal character either.

  5. That former Gov. probably asked her to let him cop a feel while getting a handjob and she said no. Probably several times, hence the time lapse between Bobo’s little show of her own at the theater and this endorsement of some other GOPer to take over her seat.

  6. Make no mistake, the only reason they want to primary Bobo is Frisch will mop the floor with her next November. This is all about keeping the seat red and nothing to do with a sudden awakening on their part. Bobo has been the same ignorant loud-mouthed clown she has always been. She is now being dumped because she may cost them a seat in congress.

  7. Your “… Ted Cruz encouraged Boebert to run because he saw her as “a bomb thrower” … “… Cruz doesn’t represent his constituents either and spends all his time podcasting and tweeting, it makes complete sense that he would perceive elected office as a public relations gig …” Begs the question. When’s the tribe going to turn on Cruz and slough him off into the inside of a biological waste bin?

  8. I am.old enough to remember Wilbur Mills getting re-elected despite an infamous incident involving a stripper known as “Fannie Fox the Argentine Firecracker” and the Tidal.Basin. It took very obvious public drunkenness in Boston to oust him. Because boys will be boys, y’know. After all what man hasn’t been caught with a,stripper and gone wading on the Mall.

I suspect that Bobo were male and caught with a hand up a bimbo’s skirt, there wouldn’t be a problem, especially if he were single. Even if he were as stupid as Bobo.is, they wouldn’t be praying for a loss in the primary. These are the guys who were fine with Louie Gohmert, whose I.Q. is around 70, because they didn’t have to worry about sex scandals.

Combine the sanctimonious turn the GOP has taken to keep!support from.their fundygelical base with the built-in misogyny, and she may be history.

  9. Uh oh. 3 thumbs down. I guess I melted a few snowflakes along the way with my sarcasm. Hey, when I start my popularity contest, I’ll let you know. One solution? Don’t put someone like HER in congress to begin with!
