The central theme that runs through here is that ignorance is key to selling any of these points and the GOP is just fine with that. As Eichenwald points out, Rudy Giuliani is clueless as to the basics of finance and SEC regulation, as are the MAGAs. What the GOP has decided to do these days is cobble together tales that sound plausible to the uninformed and sell those as truth. That’s why we have two different narratives of reality running side by side, is because one side has decided that it’s easier to live in a world of conspiracy theory and grievance, than to actually pay attention to what’s real and work to make life better for their constituents.
It’s all smoke and mirrors, but as Eichenwald concludes, the cult believes every word of it.
This is the tragedy of the Trump era and the tragedy of politics in 2023. Form has replaced substance and all that matters is what lies will get the constituents to part with a couple of dollars when it’s fundraising time. The damage that is being done to our government and to our culture is not even considered, the cynicism and the drive for power runs so deep.
