Bill WithersFor the last Sunday of Black Music Month, the Furkids team have chosen a song written and sung by the late, great Bill Withers (1938-2020). In her memorial to the singer-songwriter, Denise Oliver Velez wrote:

At a time when many people around the world are ill, have died, or feeling fear about the coronavirus epidemic, Withers’ “Lean on Me” has been a balm for many of us.

The Funday Furkids agree. They too find this song moving and soothing and in honour of a life treasured, this is their homage.

The furkids tell me the coins for the jukebox were donated by another smiling ghost this week – they seem to be on very friendly terms with a number of ghosts – so the jukebox is all ready to go. Just press play, hum along with the instrumental intro, then scroll down and sing along with the illustrated lyrics.

    • As fun as these are to do – including all the time-consuming searching, image manipulation and frustration until it looks just right – the biggest plus for me is bringing joy to others. 🙂

  3. Thanks for your hard work, I always enjoy some Sunday time with the aminals.

Catio update: previously I’d posted on these stories about a project for my cats. It’s complete!

I have a six year old black part Burmese ever-kitten named Swift, and an eight year old tabby “momma cat.” (She never had kittens, but she adopted Swift when we found her under a car at <8 weeks old). They are indoor kitties here in Pasadena, especially Swift, who has PTSD from her experiences as a kitten.

As part of the ongoing lockdown boredom, I decided to build them a “Catio” so they can have some fresh air. We have a 24’ above ground pool in our back yard outside my bedroom, and the cats would watch when we swim.

I got two bamboo outdoor shelves on sale and bolted them together. By using two, I was able to tier them shelves to give them three “floors” from the ground to the sky. Then I fenced it in with 2×4 rabbit wire, and built a gang plank that extends from a window screen cat door to the catio. Add some yoga mats and potted plants in their enclosure, and we were good to go.

I was pretty unsure how they’d take to it, especially Swift who freaks out if she’s outside. But it was apparently what they wanted their entire lives, lol. First thing in the morning they ask for the Catio to be opened, and they go out there all day to sit and watch the world.
