The long holiday weekend winds down and still no word from the titular GOP frontrunner about the horrific views of his guest, Nick Fuentes, last Tuesday. Not one syllable about how it is wrong to be anti-Semitic and unforgiveable to be a Holocaust denier.

Not one word said, even though Trump’s own aides have called the dinner this week a “f***ing nightmare.”

Fuentes, for his part, has evidently taken silence for acceptance and that’s a reasonable posture to take. Evil flourishes when good men do nothing. Evil escalates when bad men do nothing, which is the case here. Take a look at Fuente’s latest podcast where he really goes all out with his right-wing hate mongering.

“A big N-word free for all.” And Trump is fine with this, evidently. And you know who else is fine? Kevin McCarthy. And you want to know why that is? Because the right-wing fringe loonies in the House are holding him hostage. They’ve got a gun to his head. They want certain concessions and if McCarthy wants the gavel, he will give them what they want. Poor Kevin. Apparently he never heard the phrase, “Never negotiate with terrorists,” because that’s where he is right now, make no mistake.

Now you know who’s got the gun and his finger on the trigger. Heather Cox Richardson:

Republican lawmakers have been silent about Trump’s apparent open embrace of the far right, illustrating the growing power of that far right in the Republican Party. Representatives Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) have affiliated themselves with Fuentes, and while their appearances with him at the America First Political Action Conference last February drew condemnation from Republican leader Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), now McCarthy desperately needs the votes of far-right Republicans to make him speaker of the House. To get that support, he has been promising to deliver their wish list—including an investigation into President Joe Biden’s son Hunter—and appears willing to accept Fuentes and his followers into the party, exactly as Fuentes hoped. [Emphasis mine]

Today, after the news of Trump’s dinner and the thundering silence that followed it, conservative anti-Trumper Bill Kristol tweeted: “Aren’t there five decent Republicans in the House who will announce they won’t vote for anyone for Speaker who doesn’t denounce their party’s current leader, Donald Trump, for consorting with the repulsive neo-Nazi Fuentes?”

So far, at least, the answer is no.

Let that simmer and stew in your grey matter.

Trump embraced the far right long ago. And he is just fine with Fuentes election denialism. More than fine. Fuentes is one of the “special patriots” that Trump admonished to go home, after watching them trash the Capitol on TV for three hours and doing nothing.

Fuentes and his “America First” followers, called “Groypers” after a cartoon amphibian (I’m not kidding), backed Trump’s lies that he had actually won the 2020 election. At a rally shortly after the election, Fuentes told his followers to “storm every state capitol until Jan. 20, 2021, until President Trump is inaugurated for four more years.” Fuentes and Groypers were at the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, and at least seven of them have been charged with federal crimes for their association with that attack. The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol subpoenaed Fuentes himself.

Fuentes is ecstatic about this new development. He’s got publicity now that he couldn’t buy for a million dollars and here is what he’s going to use it for.

In February 2020, Fuentes launched the America First Political Action Conference to compete from the right with the Conservative Political Action Conference. In May 2021, on a livestream, Fuentes said: “My job…is to keep pushing things further. We, because nobody else will, have to push the envelope. And we’re gonna get called names. We’re gonna get called racist, sexist, anti-Semitic, bigoted, whatever.… When the party is where we are two years later, we’re not gonna get the credit for the ideas that become popular. But that’s okay. That’s our job. We are the right-wing flank of the Republican Party. And if we didn’t exist, the Republican Party would be falling backwards all the time.”

The right-wing flank of the Republican party wants to take over the House. That’s where we are. And you do not hear the GOPers out screaming on the Sunday political shows, do you? No. And that has not gone unnoticed.

You don’t take a meeting with people you don’t know. Nobody does that. And especially the higher up in a field you are. The idea that a declared candidate for president of the United States sat down at dinner with a self-avowed Holocaust denier, anti-Semite, racist, misogynist, ad infinitum and didn’t know about it is bullshit. Yet, like everything else Trumpian, it is part of the new abnormal. We’re just supposed to believe it’s real.

There’s a right-wing movement afoot to make the GOP the Groyper’s party.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. The votes of all of the Democrats plus four reasonable Republicans is all that is required to put a fair and balanced non-Trumper Republican into the House Leader’s seat.
    Is anyone looking at this?

  2. That’s right, keep running your mouth, you Cubano pendejo. Give people an excuse to blame all of what has happened and will happen on you when it goes bad for the whole fright-wing.

  3. Matt Gaetz, is that the guy that Everyone wants a chance to slap around, just before he is tarred and feathered, and sent to some other city on a refrigerated freight car so he won’t spoil before he gets there?

Some people are really pissed at this poor excuse for a Congress person …

  4. We know there are a handful of Black Republicans in Congress; where are THEY right now? Why are THEY not vehemently out there condemning their “colleagues” for letting Fuentes’ words get any traction within “their” Party?

And Jewish GOP donors? Where are THEY? Why aren’t they threatening to withhold future donations or threatening to primary GOPers who don’t vehemently condemn Fuentes?

  5. Oh, PULEEZE! Trump knew damned well who Fuentes is. He should have had the Secret Service show him right out the door and he didn’t. Tells you all you need to know.

    He’s such a bald-faced liar.
