FBI Throws Wrench In Comer’s Plans the Same Day He Admits He’s On A Crusade To Get Trump Reelected

Maybe we should simply be grateful for the fact that everything is all out in the open now, without even the hint of a fig leaf anywhere on the body politic. The House GOP has made it emphatically clear that they’re just fine with wrecking the economy if doing so will wreck Joe Biden and therefore return them to power. Donald Trump is totally behind this as well. Then there’s James Comer, who has made no bones about the fact that he’s on a quest to bring down Joe Biden — and he’s looking for evidence to help him reach that goal. It’s not evidence first, then action, no it’s conclusion first and then find the evidence to fit it.

Comer had another set back today. CNN:

The FBI declined Wednesday to provide House Oversight Chairman James Comer with an internal law enforcement document that some Republicans claim will show Joe Biden was involved in an illegal scheme involving a foreign national.

“You have asked for what you say is a ‘precise description’ of an ‘alleged criminal scheme’ contained in is a single FD-1023 report. You express concern that the FBI has inappropriately ‘failed to disclose’ such a report ‘to the American people,’” Christopher Dunham, acting assistant director for the FBI’s office of congressional affairs, said in the letter to Comer, a copy of which was obtained by CNN.

“It is critical to the integrity of the entire criminal justice process and to the fulfillment of our law enforcement duties that FBI avoid revealing information — including unverified or incomplete information — that could harm investigations, prejudice prosecutions or judicial proceedings, unfairly violate privacy or reputational interests, or create misimpressions in the public,” he continued in the letter.

This is about the form FD-1023, which is “used by FBI agents to record unverified reporting from a confidential human source,” and strict guidelines are adhered to about where this information goes outside the FBI.

Simply, Comer has wanted to use the unverified allegations in one of these forms as a way of attacking Joe Biden. So far, this matter is all hearsay, which even Chuck Grassley has said he doesn’t know the validity of. Grassley admitted recently that he had spoken to an unnamed whistleblower, who alleged that Biden was involved in an illegal payment to a foreign national but he said that he didn’t know whether the claim was true or false.

And actually, it may not even matter. Comer has been pretty open about the reason he’s doing all this, which is not to prosecute Joe Biden for any actual wrongdoing, but so he can smear Biden and get Donald Trump reelected. Listen to him crow about how well that’s going.

It’s a smear job for the purpose of smearing. Great. We get it. And it’s certainly nothing new. Here’s Kevin McCarthy, back in the day, crowing about the very same thing.

Maybe this is the way to go. Or, it’s the way that things are going, let’s put it that way. Don’t even pretend there’s merit to a claim, just cut straight to the chase and admit you’re looking for dirt on an opponent and right now this is the best you can find.
