I have always been shocked at the number of people who were willing to break laws to ensure their Messiah, Donald Trump could stay in the White House past 2021. I guess I’ll never understand this. Now, the proverbial chickens have come home to roost for 11 Arizona Republicans and seven former Trump aides who thought they could finagle a scheme to keep Trump in the White House by falsely certifying that he won the state in 2020. This is, of course, not true, since Joe Biden narrowly carried the state. The efforts of the 11 fake electors and the aforementioned aides didn’t sit well with an Arizona Grand jury that indicted all of them for their troubles, AZCentral reports.

Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the indictment was issued on Wednesday. Of course, for those of us hoping anyone connected to Trump will stumble, this is good news to our tired ears. The indictment alleges the slate of Republicans who’d gained the nickname “fake electors” engaged in a conspiracy that was meant to prevent “the lawful transfer of the presidency of the United States, keeping President Donald J. Trump in office against the will of Arizona voters, and depriving Arizona voters of their right to vote and have their votes counted.”

The names of the seven former aides have been redacted from the grand jury indictment, and this is likely because they have not been served notice of the charges against them.

It’s always nice to see the trash taken out. While their names may be redacted, along with the charges against them, details included in the indictment make it clear that several top allies of the ex-president’s, who piled on a pressure campaign to change the election results, will also be facing charges in Arizona. It’s likely Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s former lawyer/clown, and former chief of staff Mark Meadows, among others are among those named in the indictment.

The document also makes clear that Trump himself is “unindicted coconspirator 1.”

Many of the Arizonans facing charges are some pretty big guns: a former Republican Party of Arizona chairman; a Republican national committeeman and aTurning Point USA executive who’s a part of the group’s political arm. A pair of sitting state senators —one of whom wields immense political power at the Arizona Capitol round out the group.

For many of us, these fake electors have shaken what little confidence we still had in the democratic process. But the good news here is that the grand jury’s decision could levy some heavy-duty criminal consequences for the plot to subvert the will of Arizona voters. This terrible scandal shredded faith in elections and brought forth election conspiracy theories that are now embedded in GOP politics within the state. As AZCentral reports, Mayes is promising to aggressively fight election conspiracies. But considering the conspiracies and the nutters she’s up against, she’s in for a tough battle.

But Mayes appears to be up to the challenge. The grand jury, a panel of Arizonans who met secretly in recent weeks, heard the evidence provided by her prosecutors and found there was enough evidence to bolster criminal charges.

Now the 11 fake electors are each charged with nine criminal counts, including conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and artifices, fraudulent schemes and practices, and six counts of forgery.

If you’re curious to see who the fake electors are, here’s the list.

  • Tyler Bowyer, an executive who works for Turning Point USA. Bowyer is also a committeeman for the Republican National Committee.
  • Nancy Cottle, chair of the Arizona Trump electors.
  • State Sen. Jake Hoffman, R-Queen Creek.
  • State Sen. Anthony Kern R-Glendale.
  • Jim Lamon, a former U.S. Senate candidate.
  • Robert Montgomery, former chair of the Cochise County Republican Committee.
  • Samuel Moorhead, the former leader of the Gila County GOP.
  • Loraine Pellegrino, the secretary of the Arizona Trump electors.
  • Greg  Safsten, former executive director of the Arizona GOP.
  • Kelli Ward, the former chair of the Arizona Republican Party.
  • Michael Ward, her husband, and a GOP activist.

These11 electors met in Phoenix at the Arizona Republican headquarters on Dec. 14 2020, and the posted videos on social media of themselves casting votes for Trump. They even stooped so far as to sign paperwork to submit to Congress in which they claimed they were “duly elected and qualified” electors.

How shameful. Only desperate people working for a desperate man would do this. I’m glad Trump is considered “Co-conspirator 1.” I hope they climb up his behind with a microscope. Because he couldn’t accept loss, I believe Trump’s actions may go down in history as one of the most shameful things done by any politician.

I hope he sees his day in court. As well as these other so-called “electors.”

  1. Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Electoral College has gotta go!
If we had a direct election of POTUS, like we do for all other elected officials, this would not be an issue.
