This past weekend the news cycle was dominated by talk of how Ron DeSantis is doing a major reset in his campaign, everything from cleaning house staff wise, to revamping his message. When you’re trailing as badly as he is and people are calling you the “next Scott Walker flame-out” you need to do something.

Here’s a scene in Florida showing Ron DeSantis being praised to the hilt — by one of Donald Trump’s devotees, no less. Whut? Yes, indeed, if we are to believe our eyes and ears.

Maybe this is real? Or, maybe DeSantis is doing what Trump did, which is to take a page from Jim Jones’ book. Jones used to stack the audience with employees, who would then declare how they had recovered from crippling illnesses, blindness, even, and race to the stage to praise Jones and his good work. Maybe that’s what’s going on here. St. Ronald, foe of Donald, nemesis to Mickey, being born before your very eyes.

If in fact this is the case, then DeSantis hasn’t changed one basic, fundamental thing and that is: he wants to unite people based upon who and what they hate, not upon solid policies of change for the better. A relationship built upon negatives is not a good relationship, whether it’s a personal or a public one. In politics it spells disaster.
