Well, one thing is sure, Trump wasn’t lying. He has said for more than 30 years that he built a big, beautiful, successful real estate company. And he did, a big, beautiful, successful criminal organization real estate company. Earlier today a Manhattan jury convicted the Trump organization of all 17 charges against it. A clean sweep.
This opens up a couple of fascinating possibilities. The first is this. In arguing for sentencing, Bragg’s team can argue that the entire organization was either a corrupt operation from the start, or morphed into a corrupt organization early on. This can be convincingly argued because the 17 charges the Trump organization was convicted of took place over 15 years.
If the prosecutors allege an inherently corrupt organization at sentencing, and if the judge agrees, it could be devastating for both His Lowness, as well as his organization. From what I can find out, it wouldn’t change the top line fine of $1.6 million. But what it would potentially do is to allow the court to appoint independent overseers to go into the Trump organization. Things like forensic accountants and tax lawyers to look at Trump’s books and make sure he doesn’t color outside the lines again. And consider this. For the past several years, Trump’s deadbeat ass has largely been cut off from commercial banks, instead raising private equity for his deals. Who the hell wants to invest his money into a criminal enterprise, especially one dumb enough to get caught?
But the second possibility is even more enticing. In the last term of former Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Vance ran an uber intensive investigation actually looking to file criminal charges against not only Trump himself, but also his adult children. And he didn’t do it on the cheap either. He brought in some high caliber talent, experts in corrupt organizations and public corruption, including Zen Master Mark Pomerantz who wrote the book.
And they wanted, desperately to indict Trump and his spawn and go to trial. But Vance, an old school prosecutor, didn’t want to saddle his replacement with a somewhat risky, high profile case. So he left the decision to Bragg. And Bragg basically decided to put the investigation on a pause, stopping it in its tracks. It didn’t go over well. Pomerantz and his sidekick, furious with Brag, not only resigned in protest, they also took the extreme step of releasing their resignation letters to the media, airing their dirty laundry and putting Bragg in a bad light.
But things just changed. Anonymous sources close to Bragg leaked to reporters that Bragg wasn’t really worried about the quality of the investigation, or the case itself. What worried Bragg was whether or not, in a high-profile case with the name Trump attached to it, his prosecution team could actually seat a jury without at least 1 MAGA moron on it to hang the jury, and either force a retrial, or drop the damn thing and slink home. But today’s verdict in the Trump org. case shows Bragg that he can seat a favorable jury in Manhattan, and get a positive outcome. The only question is, does Bragg’s left nut finally drop?
Because my friends, the criminal case against Trump and his offspring is in the can, ready to go. Hell, Pomerantz wanted to take the case to the grand jury all the way back in November, get indictments, and Traitor Tot and his kiddies into the judicial system. The documents are there, the evidence is there, the testimony is there. All Bragg has to do is to empanel a new grand jury, present his case, and get his goddamn indictments. The ball is in his court now, and his alone.
My personal calculation is that Alvin Bragg will drop the hammer. He had to be absolutely furious at the public release of the resignation letters, it made him look weak and indecisive, afraid to take on fame and power. Today’s verdict shows he can take on the Trump name, and come out the winner. And if Bragg wants another term, he’s going to need a marquis conviction on his record, and passing on getting a conviction of a company, with an inside witness ain’t going to do it. Don’t touch that dial.
Prosecutor politicians. The equal justice falls apart right there. Fact.
