I’m usually not a fan of anything with the word “conservative” attached to it. However, in this instance, I am changing my mind. All because one conservative group released an incendiary anti-Trump ad smack in the middle of his town hall on Fox News. The ad, produced by the PAC Republican Accountability torches Trump, and it aims to mobilize the Republican race in the days before the Iowa Caucuses.

At 30 seconds, the ad is short but it manages to impose images of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz condemning Trump for January 6 as the former president urges the surly mob to “fight like hell,” according to Raw Story.

I have to say, the ad is impressive.

Republican Accountability’s Sarah Longwell is happy with the results. The group, posting on X wrote, “We just ran this ad during Trump’s Fox News Townhall,” and Longwell commented about the “hate mail” from the spot.

In the video, we see a huge mob of MAGA faithful on Jan. 6 fighting police wearing full riot gear in an attempt to stop the certification of the election of then-President-Elect Joe Biden.

“trump told them to fight,” the title in white capital letters reads.

Trump’s words, ominous and threatening, from that terrible day, are interspersed throughout the ad.

“we fight like hell,” Trump tells the angry mob while rioters engulf the edifice and fight police.

Next, we see McConnell, (then the Senate Majority Leader) delivering a speech one month after the failed siege, saying “President Trump is responsible for provoking the events of the day.”

Then the ad cuts away to Trump chiming in on that day: “We will never concede; you don’t concede when there is theft involved.” Right after that, Cruz, on Jan.7, criticized Trump, saying “The president’s language and rhetoric crossed the line and it was reckless.”

Finally, we see GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher (Wisconsin), who gives us a wake-up call, saying, “This is the cost of telling thousands of people that there is a legitimate shot of overturning the election.”

Then the title looms once again, with the stark warning: “TRUMP DID THIS. HE’LL DO IT AGAIN… HE CAN NEVER BE PRESIDENT AGAIN.”

I can’t help but think Trump is likely fuming if he saw this ad. But I fully believe what the ad says. Trump fomented insurrection once, and he’ll do this again if it suits his purposes.

I’m including the ad below, as well as Longwell’s comment and some thoughts from X users.

  1. As for “Ghosted Hippie”, I’ve noticed a bizarre phenomena. Many former hippies (baby boomer gen) have devolved to Trumpism. The anti-authority counter-culture has gone to the Righ counter-culture. And WE are now the “silent najority”. What would Nixon say?

      • As a former counter culture hippie turned redneck conservative turned back to liberal anti- fascist, nothing could be further from the truth.

    • Many of us are just as liberal as ever. Not all who were hippies were libs, many were just hiding out amongst us, exploiting the freed-up sexual mores., hiding from cops for serious crimes. While I might have been ‘anti-authority’ back then, I’ve progressed to anti-authoritarianism since.

    • All the hippies (hundreds) I knew back in the day, except one, are as liberal as they always were. Carol O is right – those who are now Maga were never liberal to begin with, just pretending. The one I’m thinking of “came out” as a red neck at the age of 48, but looking back on his attitude and behavior, it was right there under the surface the whole time.

    • I.am 74. I went to college in D.C. The hippies were always a very small percentage of my generation compared to ROTC Nazis and Young Republicans. and even a good chunk of the anti-war crowd were only against being drafted, not actually against the Vietnam war. You had a chunk of hawks, a small.group of hippies (they were more visually interesting than everyone else so natch, they became the face of my generation). Once the war was over, they got M.B.A.S and went to.work for Big Finance as they’d always planned. And voted Republican.

  2. Fritz Trump! The groundswell is starting, as evident by this PAC Republican Accountability Trump torcher. Spectacular Trump faceplate into his pyre of incendiary problems, has now flint sparked. Fritz Trump!

  3. True conservatives would honor our democracy. They would honor science. They would honor factual history. Some might say I was a former’ hippie’. I’m a conservative as I was when I wanted Nixon arrested and put in jail for treason. Some people don’t know anything about the Beats which started in the 50s that led to the counterculture of the 60s. They know nothing about Kesey and the Merry pranksters, the Blaxk Panthers, or the antiwar protesters. They now seem to think we now support fascism.
That’s ignorance. Anyone who was a hippie and now supports Trump was never truly a hippie to begin with. Fact. It’s takes more than wearing tiedye and smoking cannabis to be a hippie. Much more. I tend to think anyone who hasn’t read Allen Ginsburg’s HOWL is just following popular culture. By the way it was banned but that was overturned. You’re either on. the bus or off the bus…right Kesey? We true hippies are just in an underground movement. The Alice’s Restaurant anti-massacre movement. Or, part of Vonnegut ‘s children’s crusade. Take your pick.

    • I was never a hippy, but I wanted Nixon to pay the penalty. I was,a,liberal.Democrat by birth ( whole family was) and choice. Most college students, were anti-draft, not anti-war. I thought the war made no sense at all and there was no reason to be there. But a lot of my friends +67-71) were against the war, but not militant.

The Republicans in the a brim draft for THEM and got M.B.A.S once the war ended.

    • I count myself among the lucky people who got to attend a reading by Allen Ginsburg. I was also lucky enough to listen to Maya Angelou. I have been blessed. I’m also a major fan of Kurt Vonnegut, so I’m glad I grew up during the times when I did.
