Another Day, Another Trump rally. What Could Go Wrong?

I give up. I mean, we are truly crossing the line into the theater of the absurd. Even mental institutions will only catch a patient banging his head off a wall so many times before they move him to a room with nice soft padding.

If all goes well(?) it looks like Saturday it’s Portsmouth New Hampshire’s turn in the barrel. After a couple of weeks of screaming, crying, and pouting about the abysmal performance and crowd at the Tulsa rally, Trump is climbing back in the saddle and galloping off to whack his head on another low hanging branch. First, a quick review.

A couple of weeks ago, His Lowness held a pathetic excuse for a rally in coronavirus swept Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was slammed for the gathering in a closed venue, no masks, and a lack of social distancing, even though each person could have had their own row. He got hit harder when video showed event employees trying to move people closer together to make the crowd look larger for the cameras. The size of the spike Trump created at this circus buffet is unknown, it’ll take another week or so for those numbers.

A couple of days later, Trump packs another 3500 young supporters (The Twitler Youth?) into a mega church in Phoenix, being as badly hammered as Tulsa, for an hour and a half. Again, slammed for no masks, and packing them in like sardines. Again we will have to wait for concrete numbers on the damage assessment for that rally to properly assess blame.

But never let it be said that the Trump campaign is incapable of learning from past stupid mistakes. They did, so now they’re setting out to make a brand new, fresh, stupid mistake. Saturday’s rally is scheduled to be held at an open airport hanger. Masks will be handed out to attendees, and the campaign says that this time they’ll  be encouraged to use them. The rationale is obvious. By using an open venue, the campaign is hoping to stifle criticism for packing people together into enclosed places.

The problem is that it’s a stupid idea, and it won’t work. First of all, the hanger is open on two sides, with two walls, and a roof, so already you’re cutting the air circulation capacity. And second, they won’t be able to practice social distancing, since the hangar will likely hold less than 5000 people, and if you set them up 6 feet apart, the crowd wouldn’t be worth the effort.

The campaign is trying to reap the benefits of an outdoor gathering without taking the necessary steps to ensure personal safety. Outdoor gatherings are safer than indoor gatherings, but only when the rules are followed! Family units in a park or beach can sit together, but should still be maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet on all sides from outsiders. But the Trump campaign is going to jam them cheek-to-jowl together in that hanger, and claim it’s safe because it’s being held outside.

The Trump campaign is going to catch shit for this stunt, simply because there has already been public pushback against it. The Mayor of Miami Beach closed the beaches for the holiday weekend specifically because it was impossible to maintain social distancing if the beaches were mobbed. And New York Governor Andrew Coumo lambasted his own citizens for their brain dead behavior on New York’s beaches over the weekend.

The People of New Hampshire aren’t stupid, but if they are, it’s by choice. Since day one, while admitting that outside activities are safer, health officials have stressed that social distancing must be maintained, or failing that, masks must be worn if it is impossible to do that. There is no mystery here, the Trump campaign’s goal is to pack as many people as possible into a semi enclosed space, to feed Glorious Bleater’s ego. Whether or not the people are dumb enough to go along with that is up to them. But if they do, it will be sad to see the hot spots start popping up in New Hampshire a month from now, from all of the bucket heads who came home and infected their family and neighbors. Nice try guys, but we’re already on to you.

  1. Like Ursula says the “s**t show” goes on. I am constantly appalled, but no longer shocked or surprised by anything this clown or his people do.

  2. Himself is perfect in every way, including health, and no one else matters in his universe. We’re all NPCs, non-playing characters, and don’t exist except as props.

    • I’ve seen fairly large buildings that are open on four sides, or can be. Think of livestock pavilions at fairs.
(Small hangars with both doors all the way open are closer to outside than large hangars.)

  3. The science that tells us masks are effective is sound, but as with so many seemingly simple things it’s more complex than that. Masks are effective in combination with social distancing.

    And NORMAL breathing.

When you exhale through a mask you greatly reduce the number of any virus that might be expelled through your breath output, and with six feet of separation that’s typically enough to drastically reduce the chance of infecting someone else. However, science also tells us that coughing or sneezing can get past the six foot range, as can YELLING AND SCREAMING.

So, let’s imagine the reality. There’s no way in hell Trump aides will allow sitting people even six feet apart, much less twelve or fifteen feet. He’d whine and complain about “bad visuals” so folks will be packed in tight. Tighter than the recommended six feet for normal circumstances. Now, in addition to that people will be shouting at the top of their lungs, and in close proximity for an hour at least and if the place gets a rocking and Trump gets his sugar high of adoration it will be closer to two hours until he runs out of steam. That means any of the goobers who happen to be carrying the virus will be expelling it all over at least several people close to them.

Now let’s get into I don’t believe it territory. If Team Trump encourages people to wear masks and comes up with a plausible excuse to get people to do so (i.e. “It will own the libs”) what do you think the first thing they will do once the rally is over and they exit the venue. Rip off those masks! Doing so will mean brushing their hands against their faces. And virus will be all over their clothes too. Even if only a few thousand folks show up and only a couple hundred are infected (or even less than that) this will wind up all over NH and over the state line as well.

I just hope the media covering the event does what it did in Tulsa which is have cameras (even if they have to sneak footage on their cell phones) showing the crowd and panning the hanger. Trump has worked hard in the past to keep that from happening, but in Tulsa we finally got to see more than Trump and the goobers behind him. My hope is that Trump will once again be embarrassed by a crowd that comes nowhere near close to filling his venue.

  4. We will only begin to see the results of the Tulsa rally the week of the 13th of July….it takes two weeks for effects of the virus to appear, another week to get very ill, and another or less to crawl into their local ER.

I’m not an expert on virology, but it’s not rocket science, though it seems to elude the MAGAts and their Orange Jesus…..he is killing off his base, the only ones left dumb enough to vote for him.

  5. Let’s not forget that at Trump’s GOP-Nazi rally in Tulsa campaign staff removed stickers that were affixed on every other seat by the event owner’s staff to comply with social distancing;
…. and in Keystone, SD, Trump’s campaign staff zip-tied the chairs together.

The Trump campaign staff did this on orders from the Trump Crime Administration to make certain there was effective transmission of the virus and for optics on crowd density.

Expecting much the same in NH.

A little divine intervention would be great about now to remove Agolf Twitler and Pence the Menace from power simultaneously; reverse the 2020 vote-rigging and save the USA and our planet Earth.
