If there are any historians from the future here, reading about the Last Days Of Trump, let me give you a clue about what’s really going on with Donald Trump on January 8. You might think that he’s worried about the fact that he’s being called upon to resign or worried about the fact that he’s got criminal and civil proceedings waiting for him after he leaves office, or worried about the fact that the January 6 riot has tarnished his legacy — and you would be wrong. There is one thing and one thing only that has Trump climbing the walls right now and that is the fact of his Twitter ban. He.Is.Shattered. Future historian reading these words, please take it from me: Trump never gave a damn about the White House or the presidency or any of it, except as it dovetailed with his need for constant attention and massive relevancy. And Twitter was a key element to that. And now Twitter is gone and Trump cannot handle it.
Murfster mentioned that Trump had grabbed the White House Twitter feed. So I went looking for it. And it was what you would expect.
Trump really needs this outlet. As I have said before, Twitter is his best friend, his mistress, his drinking buddy, his therapist, his stage, his journal, his townhall, his sounding board, his echo chamber, his pulpit. He needs it. And now he’s going through withdrawal, because at a time where he really needs to feel powerful and relevant and feel the assurances of the base bouncing through the ethernet, comforting him and assuring him that he’s still the center of attention, his drug of choice is gone. Twitter just cut him off cold turkey. He can’t connect. He might as well be at the bottom of a mine shaft.
Believe me, this is striking Trump to the core. He never thought this was even remotely possible. And he’s not handling it well, I would bet my life on that. Trump’s focus is transitory. It’s well known that he makes decisions based on what the last person he talked to said about a given subject. And that’s where Twitter fits in, it’s a kind of alter ego for Trump. He puts his ideas into his feed and the followers react and it’s almost a chemical exchange. And now he’s got nothing.
Of all of the stories breaking right now, this is the one to stay on top of. Trump is saying that he’s looking “at the possibilities of building out our own platform.” I’m sure he is. I’m sure he wants to replace Twitter more than anything. Because without his platform, his grifting is going to be sorely impaired. No audience, no show. And no show, no money. Sad.
We should go easy on the poor little fella…..this is the first time he has ever faced consequences for his actions, so let’s all give him a break rite….
……RITE???
……..nah……screw him.
*smirk*
As a favorite old game of mine put it, no pity, no mercy, no remorse.
Why not as we move on, It’s the Republican in the next 4 years I have a problem with.
Those folk, Philip, have got the kind of problems in their backyard 4 years and the current remnants of their leadership can’t fix.
Especially if the new administration goes easy on the miscreants
No just let the laws put old lying. Donald j Trump in prison
The laws need to put lying donald trump jr in prison to by he is just like donald j Trump threatening people’s to.
The whole lying trump’s family in prison where they belong at
While I share your fear, he’s cut off,,, and I can’t sleep, he has to resign, he has to
Folks are moving faster than you think, Steve. After that BS on Wednesday, nobody’s taking any chances. His continuing stupidity remains the best thing we’ve got going for us.
What’s fascinating here is that Jack Dorsey actually just dealt a blow to Trump that is bigger than the one the electorate dealt him. Twitter is one of the few things in Trump’s life that is real, that he can depend upon to be there for him to use. Dorsey just took away Trump’s favorite toy and I guarantee you, he’s screaming and flipping out.
Not just chickens, all those tiny birds coming home to roost.
Sure Trump, “build out a 0latform.” Hilarious.
I think it’s fair to say that the only platform anyone wants Trump to have is the kind that his zombie followers wanted to put all those Congress critters on during the botched insurrection.
I think the platform he should build out is a pier, from Mar-a-Lago going into the sea. Build it out and then jump the eff off. Go down to Atlantis and screw with the people there.
Hell, Ursula, just put him on the right spot of the Florida coast and let climate change do the rest.
Yeah, Trump is basically a junkie when it comes to Twitter. And like all junkies of his particular unhealthy bent, he made the inevitable mistake of thinking he was smarter than he actually was. A funny/pathetic sequence of Leo DiCaprio at a country club in Scorcese’s Wolf Of Wall Street comes to mind.
He is raging around like Rumpelstilskin.
or Rumplethinskin
The crawling mishap of birth and hatching of poisoned Orange yolk say bye bye. “Not a moment to soon”
Bill Palmer, a minor pundit I’ve been following, has been genuinely puzzled by this. Trump could have used the time of transition to arrange a softer landing for himself, which has been his lifelong pattern. Instead, he just made sure he’s going to get the worst possible outcome for pushing this crap.
He got overcommitted and wrapped around the axle and couldn’t stop himself. He still can’t.
No he cannot, Cherl. And it will finish destroying him.
He believed everyone would back him up. He’s the center of his universe, and can’t stand being told he isn’t the center of the universe for everyone else.
No attention for a malignant narcissist? “Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.” Hemingway
Ummm that’s actually a quote from a poem by John Donne, written in 1624.
Sorry, Jarvis, but no, that’s not the exact Donne quote. “Never send to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.” Hemingway used part of that for his book title.
A very small part of it.
He tried using a campaign account and got it banned, then he got someone to let him use their account and got that one banned also.
(And now his kids are complaining because they’re losing followers.)
OMG, the kids are losing followers? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Oh, the Trump train is running out of gas for sure. The phenomenon may have worn out. I speculate at this point, having no information, that maybe the followers are just realizing that they’ve been conned. Why else would they give up on the kids, unless they know the game is over and they’ve lost. So why bother continuing to play? What is truly funny, though, is the kids thought they were such hot stuff. Now they’re realizing they were just pawns and if Daddy lost, people are saying screw you, too.
The Trump ‘brand’ has ceased to have any positive value at all.
Indeed it now has quite a large negative value, a cost, associated with being with it.
SO THE DUMPF WANTS TO BUILD HIS OWN PLATFORM NOW THAT HE HAS BEEN BANNED FROM MOST SOCIAL MEDIA . . . WELL GOOD F-ING LUCK GETTING FINANCING AFTER THIS SPECTACLE OF THE PAST MONTHS!
I know Trump got 74 million votes, but how many hard-core true believers does he really have? You know, the ones that are ready to attack state houses and claim they will gladly die for him. Not many, I warrant.
