The path of the GOP to the Dark Side continues. The flashpoint that truly illuminates how far away the Republican party has strayed from conservative values and into the Cult of Trump is the backlash against Liz Cheney, for merely speaking the truth, that election fraud didn’t take place in 2020 and that is is a negative and corrosive lie to repeat. That, according to conventional wisdom at this point on a Friday, will cost Cheney her leadership job next week. It boggles the mind. That said, Axios is reporting that the GOP is institutionalizing Trumpism and that Trump rallies are starting up again, real soon.

The evidence is overwhelming:

  • House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney, a Trump critic, is expected to get booted from leadership next week for saying Trump’s claims of an illegitimate Biden victory are destructive lies.

  • Trumpian voting restrictions like Georgia’s are now being debated in Texas, Florida, Arizona, Iowa and other states.

  • The Trump positions on trade and immigration — both of which broke with Bush-era orthodoxy — are now the Republican positions.

  • The 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump after the Jan. 6 violence have gone mostly silent, and in at least one case turned on Cheney.

  • The entire House GOP leadership will soon be full-throated Trumpers.

  • House Rs expect Trump-backed candidates to crush his critics in contested primaries.

  • State-level Republican leaders are often as — or more — Trumpian than national leaders, and in many cases will control redistricting.

Trump senior adviser Jason Miller tells me Trump rallies are likely to “start as soon as late spring or early summer.”

  • Miller said Trump “has already begun to vet and endorse candidates for 2022, with an eye toward electing not just Republican candidates, but America First Republican candidates.”

  • “His endorsement lifts candidates above the pack and often clears the primary field,” Miller said. “The general election endorsement provides access to ‘Trump voters’ not normally accessible to Republicans.”

I guess conservatism goes out with a whimper and not a bang. Trump only got where he got in the party because nature abhors a vacuum and he was the loudest voice in the room. What started out as an informercial for Trump TV has somehow taken over one of the two major political parties in this country.

This is stunning, but facts are facts.

  1. I wonder if they’ll resurrect the ‘chicken in every pot and a car in every backyard’ as Herbert Hoover did.

Why not – considering they claim to have increased prosperity (albeit for the already extremely wealthy) and reduced working hours (by letting a pandemic run unchecked). They have ‘filled every working man’s pail’ (but I shudder to think what they willed it with)

    • I wonder if they’ll resurrect the “chicken in every pot and a car in every backyard”
I suppose the 2021 version of that would be “pot in every backyard??”

Doesn’t sound like the GOP They are more likely to give every household a pot of ashes from the 500.000+ people who died of COVID-19. Nah, scratch that, it would be a cardboard box of ashes.

      • Recycled cardboard box. I just seen New York still using refrigerated trucks to store bodies. Discount cremation services. Just donate ashes to good causes. Ashes for trump. I know it’s a sickness. I claim PTSD.

  2. First, have these fools ever been on the Light Side in my lifetime (I was born the year Rod Serling died, FYI)? Second, this looks like everybody is trying to keep their grift going now that they’ve burned too many bridges with the Big Money Boys, who want NOTHING to publicly do with these pathetic throwbacks.

    • You should do a story about a guy who writes sci fi and worships Rod Serling. He could 1. imagine Serling is talking to him from the TZ; 2. Imagine he’s becoming Serling. I like this premise. Thanks for giving me something to roll around the creative corners of my mind.

  3. This is all for 45 to get campaign $$. That’s all this is. The followers are being effed over and don’t know it. Yet……our democracy is being attacked – AND WE KNOW IT! Where is the extremely strong word from the Dems exposing this?

    • I completely agree. But the fact that Trumpism has such a grip on the party and “old fashioned Republicans” as Romney put it are being booed, is something we can’t ignore. I will be amazed to see what happens next week. Maybe the House GOPers will vote differently in a secret ballot. I still think there’s an off chance that McCarthy might get toppled. Maybe not. Maybe what it looks like now is what it really is.

      • Given how much they like imitating Trump, I’m inclined to agree with the grift interpretation. However, I’m also inclined to think that the Dems are quietly laying out plans right now and are adjusting them to changing circumstances. Frankly, I’m more concerned (and pissed) that Montana and South Carolina are getting rid of unemployment right now.

      • Yes, the rallies will be super spreader events. And they will be campaigning cash cows. Right up front, you have a problem. Trump won’t be able to roll into town take over for four or five hours and split like the guy having steak with no money at high dollar restaurants. He’s going to get hit with all sorts of bills that he can’t blow off. He’s still 45 but his nam has two letters that are going to thwart him. Ex. He’s ex 45. There’s a 46 now. His rallies cost from quarter to half million dollars which most cities knowing his penchant for skipping on the check are going to want their money up front. And from the tapes of his crashing wedding parties, he just ain’t hitting on all cylinders. I see a conflict coming.

  4. All this, and now taking credit for Biden progress and economy boosts, via tweets from their failing leader who voted NO, on everything Biden has proposed … using the,”WE”, in any comments, like, “We will be sending-“, kind of shit needs to hit the fan right away, McCarthy needs a put down and shut up move along with an, “At-a-Girl, for Liz Cheney for her honest and unbiased truth be known facts, as the wheels of destruction continue to roll out the worst in our Country … even here in Iowa, our failing Governor, has ganged up to mess with our flawless former voting system with Republican cretins in the Iowa State Capitol …

The fraudulent Party of, “NO”, has nothing to offer, just try destruction anywhere, anytime they can …

    • Your governor is a, if I may borrow a phrase from Trump, “stone-cold loser.” She caught my eye in a negative way with her complete mishandling of the coronavirus. Count yourself lucky, Darrel, that we are here having this conversation, considering how the pandemic was botched until Biden got hold of it.

  5. Just great! Just what we need at this point, more of the Orange Monster’s Covid super-spreader events! If Covid only got spread to it’s cult members at these events, I would be all for them! But sadly, these events will end up with many innocent people getting infected.
Hopefully the cities and venues where these events are planned will demand payment in advance for security and whatever costs and fees are involved. Maybe the Orange Monster’s unwillingness to pay will cause some of them to be cancelled.

  6. Yes, it’s all good. Trump will take over the party. He will go on the road to promote himself. I see a major problem here. The orange diapers baby ? child man has a major reckoning that will soon slap him in the face. He’s going on a road tour not as a president. And technically not even as a candidate. Oh yes, I’m sure he’s signed all his papers and kissed all the unattended ladies he can get his greasy little paws ? on. But, and there’s a big one! He’s a twice impeached ex-president who will soon be in so many court cases that they will have to set up a take a number machine. And some of the cases he will soon be involved in will be criminal in nature. Now being an ex-president might have some perks but it’s highly un likely he will be doing a lot of traveling. Number one on being out on bail is you don’t leave the state. And you have both Georgia and New York with pending criminal cases. And it was no accident that they dumped on ole Rudy this week. They had the evidence to take him down while orange noodles was still the prez. But then they wouldn’t have got to Rudy including trump. No longer do we have the nasty old presidential immunity. And I guarantee that this goes to the federal government investigating authority. Never ask a question you don’t already know the answer to. They have something on Rudy. Not a doubt in my mind. But Rudy is like a minnow that you put on the hook to catch a bass. Although I suspicion Trump is more like a fat old bottom feeding carp. Whatever the case maybe they are going to start squeezing Rudy. And I think they will let Trump run out some line so they will have a few more charges to tack on. Because if criminals are anything they are consistent. So from what’s in the news. Trump isn’t paying Rudy what he owes him which Rudy needs to hire lawyers. And you have true stupidity. If Rudy had money he could hire lawyers to thwart the feds. Barring that all Rudy now has is what he knows. And he knows plenty. So in true stupid trumpian classic behavior. Trump will sink. And along with him the three amigos will go to. Ivanka, Don jr., and Eric. Bye bye all.
