If your initial reaction to this news of Donald Trump being restored to Facebook is doom and gloom, you’re not looking at it properly. And Trump is absolutely not looking at it properly.

Facebook aka Meta issued a press release today explaining some of their logic for both suspending Trump in the first place and un-suspending him in the near future.

The suspension was an extraordinary decision taken in extraordinary circumstances. The normal state of affairs is that the public should be able to hear from a former President of the United States, and a declared candidate for that office again, on our platforms. Now that the time period of the suspension has elapsed, the question is not whether we choose to reinstate Mr. Trump’s accounts, but whether there remain such extraordinary circumstances that extending the suspension beyond the original two-year period is justified.

To assess whether the serious risk to public safety that existed in January 2021 has sufficiently receded, we have evaluated the current environment according to our Crisis Policy Protocol, which included looking at the conduct of the US 2022 midterm elections, and expert assessments on the current security environment. Our determination is that the risk has sufficiently receded, and that we should therefore adhere to the two-year timeline we set out. As such, we will be reinstating Mr. Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks. However, we are doing so with new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.

I don’t think any risk has receded. Trump is crazier than ever.

But here’s the good news and why this is a good idea. Trump will burn out in the public square. He’ll lose the excuse that he is canceled and suppressed. He’ll be able to post whatever he wants, whenever he wants it. And when people simply tune out, he’ll have nobody to blame but himself. And you know that won’t happen.

So he’ll find other scapegoats. It will be Jack Smith on steroids, his rants and raves.

Here’s Trump’s gracious acceptance of the restoration of his Facebook privileges.

“FACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since ‘deplatforming’ your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account,” he wrote. “Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution! THANK YOU TO TRUTH SOCIAL FOR DOING SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB. YOUR GROWTH IS OUTSTANDING, AND FUTURE UNLIMITED!!!”

He’s off and running. The problem is, and the problem is going to stay, he’s still Trump. He hasn’t changed. And people are burned out. And now he’s going to find that out for sure.

I’m glad Trump’s back on Facebook and I hope he will reappear on Twitter as well. Talk about an anti-climax. You will see the very textbook definition of the word when Trump reappears and nobody cares.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. Maybe unintended consequences will jump up and bite him in the ass. I worry less about him attracting new cult members given his exposure, but I do worry about him calling for more ‘fighting like hell or you’re going to lose your country” rhetoric. Cult members have those imbedded maniacs living in despair that may lock and load and go out in infamy.
In the movie Constantine, he’s trying to convince a detective that people do evil because supernatural evil exist, and ” sometimes the right nudge comes along”. He was talking about demonic influence. I’m afraid some of these nuts are armed and waiting for the right nudge from this soulless bag of darkness. We all are living in a proverbial minefield of mass shootings. Trump would be fine if his militia or a lone gunman committed atrocities. He would crow that a ‘perfect’ patriot stood up for country. In reality I wish his cake hole was shut permanently. It would save somebody’s life.

    • I think his ” people ” have moved on , they have seen what has happened to the ones who were arrested on Jan.6th and Trump did nothing to help them . He’s old news .

  2. Facebook’s statement is a load of horseshit. Zuckerberg and his “Meta” dream, his attempt to proverbially force a square peg into a round hole has cost him tons of money. He and Musk make quite the pair don’t they? Anyway, Z-man is hoping Trump will generate clicks and therefore revenue and turn things around. It’s about his bottom line. He thinks, or at least hopes Trump will become a presence on FB and generate some much needed profits. Anyone who believes otherwise is kidding themselves.

  3. Of course it’s all about money. Trump has kept spewing his sewage on his site and for these fuckheads to deny that or look the other way is a lie. Move on over Jesus. You’re yesterday’s news. These fuckers worship money and the hypocrisy required to generate it. Hypocrisy is the religion of this cult.

  4. Here’s to hoping the mango moron does to f.b. what is being done to space karen’s little enterprise. There are no redeeming values to social media-the sooner they go away, the better our country and planet will be.

  5. I think you’re right, social media is ruining people. I’m really tired of it, it has become boring. Facebook has gotten old, but it will really get old with the orange mango on it again. People are sick of his nasty mouth, making a new enemy daily. A friend has already said when he shows up, she’s getting off. I concur. Glad now that I never fell into the Twitter trap. People are saying the same thing about that. Anyone that would believe anything out of that idiot’s mouth, needs help.

    • Trump is old news , nobody cares about him anymore and if he tries to run again for office he will never win . Everybody is tired of looking at his orange face …
