Trump Flips Out ‘Our Country Is Going To HELL!!!’ Because Merrick Garland Just Put Him In Checkmate

Connect the dots is a game that we play a lot around here. Early Saturday morning Donald Trump got on Truth Social and let fly about how he and he alone is persecuted and prosecuted, beyond any rationality, while others go free, Hunter Biden, laptop from Hell, bla bla. Since he’s busy at a golf tournament, the outburst was frankly surprising.

So that begged the question, what oh what set the tiny thumbs to the phone keyboard to bang out this plaintive wail?

Here’s what he had to say.

That was followed immediately by this.

So what occasioned that? My opinion is that it has to be this story, from the Washington Post:

One of the Justice Department’s most experienced national security prosecutors has joined the team overseeing the intensifying investigation of classified documents at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and private club, people familiar with the matter said. […]

David Raskin, who served for many years as a senior federal prosecutor in New York City, and more recently has worked as a prosecutor in Kansas City, Mo., has been assisting in the investigation into Trump and his aides, according to the people familiar with the matter who, like others interviewed for this article, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe an ongoing investigation.

David Raskin. That is a name you’re going to hear. And if Trump didn’t think so, why the flaming freak out, all caps, three exclamation points?

Justice Department officials initially contacted Raskin to consult on the criminal investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol. But his role has shifted over time to focus more on the investigation involving the former president’s possession and potential mishandling of classified documents, the people familiar with the matter said.

The addition of Raskin to the team handling the Mar-a-Lago probe is another indication of the seriousness with which Justice Department officials view the case and underscores the high stakes for both Trump and those tasked with investigating him.

This cannot be overemphasized. If you get one takeaway, only, from this article, let it be this one. The DOJ is simply not going to commit the time and resources to a case of this magnitude unless it believes it can win it. The addition of Raskin to the team means that the DOJ is solidifying its case and escalating it. If any of the legal types who read this blog have another interpretation, please feel free to share.

And here’s the cherry on the sundae.

Just two weeks ago, Raskin won a guilty plea in a case with parallels to the Trump case — a former FBI analyst in Kansas City who authorities say took more than 300 classified files or documents to her home, including highly sensitive material about al-Qaeda and an associate of Osama bin Laden.

Excellent. That means that Raskin knows every single piece of case law and every single statute on the books that could apply to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago case.

Raskin may be the queen piece in this chess game that Trump is playing. Meanwhile, Merrick Garland, the king piece, may move slowly (too slowly for our dopamine-fueled, digital media world, in any event) but he moves with great deliberation. And so far he hasn’t made a wrong move.

I believe this is the reason Trumpty Dumpty is freaking out today. He sees the end in sight. At the very least, somebody explained to him why this was not a good thing.

He’s got a few more rallies in the last ten days before the November 8 election. Let’s see if he brings this subject up or elaborates.

    • If you listen to his sycophants, Lin Wood first and foremost, you’ll be told he plays 12-dimensional cheese. Keen is the intellect of Trumpty Dumpty.

What I think happened here is Trump was told that he can probably run out the clock, like he always has, and then some clearly thinking lawyer (he probably has one or two of them around) told him what this new hire meant and he couldn’t handle it. Just my best guess.

        • Call Trump and tell him there’s another move he can make. Because if he’s not there, he’s damn close.

Also, can you draw at all? If you can put together the image better, I would love to see it. Box him in for good.

        • I keep coming back to that image, and it’s so frustrating! Been a while since I played much, but white seems to be in a halfway decent position there, assuming he has some other pieces left elsewhere. No way he doesn’t take one of those three black pieces two moves from now, and I can see a couple ways to possibly get two of them if black defends poorly.

  2. I’m hoping Nov 9th will be the day the indictment is unsealed. This case is as open and shut as can be as pertains to the Mango Mussolini. I think they are trying to nail down everyone who aided and abetted his theft of government documents. What I don’t think they realize is that if they arrest him, he will throw all his accomplices under the bus.

      • True! But also being made is the framework – no matter the effort or outcome — for the decimation of US democracy.

        Consider:
😱 But is this a prelude to a 2nd Civil War?

🧐 Our Nation’s co-Founder, Alexander Hamilton, described Trump as “THE MAN WHO WOULD DESTROY DEMOCRACY”:

         “Such a DEMAGOGUE [would be]:
        • a man UNPRINCIPLED in private life,
        • DESPERATE in his fortune,
        • BOLD in his temper, and
        • DESPOTIC in his ordinary demeanour.”

        Hamilton wrote further…

Such a man would one day:
        • “Mount the hobby horse of popularity to
        • Join in the cry of danger to liberty to
        • TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY OF EMBARRASSING the GENERAL GOVERNMENT [ie, this article] and
        • Bringing it under suspicion —
        • to flatter and fall in with all the nonsense of the zealots of the day” with the objective
        • “of THROW[ing] THINGS INTO CONFUSION
        • that he may ‘ride the storm and direct the whirlwind”.

        • Hamilton was describing a populist. They had them back then but did not have social media and that garbage.

Social media is crap and will destroy nations because it caters to idiots; it seems to empower them (or so they think) but rather keeps them fed with whatever idea the real powers that be (wealthy individuals and corporations) want the public to think. It spoon-feeds those who refuse, or are unable, to think for themselves and are also too stupid to do anything even approaching research. If we as a nation were wise, and we’re not, we’d lynch the creators of f.b., twitter, tik-tok, etc.

It would be a very good time to think about what this nation COULD HAVE achieved were it not for the ever so important ability to text to your friend “let’s go to hooters after work, shit emoji, shit emoji, fuck you, lol.” Think how much more we could have achieved if there were no outlets for the instantaneous transmittal of lies and misinformation.

        • No. Trump was the culmination of what the ‘pubes started over 40 years ago. Trump was what had to result after McConnell stacked and packed the federal courts up to and including the s.c. The ‘pubes have been providing a political home for the worst people in our nation and in 2016 those people decided to elect the stupidest person in the nation. Trump was merely a convenient idiot and if he were not who he is, the ‘pubes would have found some other idiot with a big mouth, unafraid to make a fool of him or her self (although it is the ‘pube party so it would likely not have been a female).

      • We have been invited into a nightmare, curious, the timing this time of year …

Trump has pushed us all into a slimy, dark tunnel, the light at the other end of the tunnel is SO WEAK, we cannot be sure what is causing it … We are now faced with feeling our way through the tunnel by sliding our hands through that slime on the walls, hoping to NOT step on those rattle snakes we can hear buzzing everywhere …
The only way to open out the tunnel, is to stop Trump in his tracks … between the 01 – 06 Committee, the Merrick Garland Crew and the firepower of NYC, NY-State, not to mention AG’s all over this Country with drooling Court systems … There is practically, NO WAY the bastard is going to escape prison time or worse … Let the games begin, this new wave of history, shows promise of the greatest show ever on Earth, Checkmate, black rook to King’s row, Black Queen at far end of K-2 in wait …

  3. As was falsely said of another Republican president, “sic semper tyrannis.” That statement is particularly true when the subject in question is this clueless.

  4. Everyone that I speak to can’t wait until the Orange ball is in jail and is off of his tweet off of his Internet and we don’t have to hear from him again we are so sick of him the lies and the deceit deep I’m just sorry all those people follow him.

  5. It’s time that Trump has gotten his due. He’s done so much harm to our country, and have managed to divide us. He’s nothing but a liar, a grifter, a cheat, and a troublemaker, and it’s amazing how half the country have fell for him. Shut him down and send him where he belongs.

  6. The unwritten rule against bringing charges against someone too close to an election is gone. It is dead and buried and Republicans are the ones who killed it. Republicans threw that rule in the crapper for all time when they put Republican head of the FBI James Comey in front of a mike to announce another sham Hillary investigation 11 DAYS before a national election. Democrats are under no obligation to ever follow that rule again.
