It’s so much fun to play connect the dots, especially when you’re dealing with the spotty and shadowy world of Donald Trump. Yesterday, it was reported that theĀ former daughter-in-law to Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg delivered another few boxes of documents and still has “several more” to provide the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, as she cooperates in their investigation. Then today, surprise, surprise, the Trump Organization decides it’s needs to hire a big gun to defend itself. Enter one Ronald Fischetti.Ā Wall Street Journal via Raw Story:

“Mr. Fischetti, 84 years old, is a former law partner of Mark Pomerantz, the former federal prosecutor working on the investigation for the office of Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. Mr. Pomerantz was sworn in as a special assistant district attorney in February and is now on leave from law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP,” reported Corinne Ramey and Rebecca Davis O’Brien.

“Mr. Vance’s office has said it is investigating possible bank, tax or insurance fraud,” said the report. “Prosecutors have subpoenaed information from former President Donald Trump’s banks, lenders, an insurance broker and other parties, The Wall Street Journal has previously reported. They are examining financial transactions at Manhattan properties including Mr. Trump’s flagship Trump Tower; Seven Springs, an estate in Westchester, N.Y.; and a hotel in Chicago,Ā The JournalĀ reported.”

The investigation accelerated after a FebruaryĀ Supreme Court rulingĀ that Vance could obtain the president’s tax returns. A previousĀ reportĀ indicated that state prosecutors are also subpoenaing the financial records of Allen Weisselberg, the longtime Trump Organization CFO.

“Mr. Trump has called the investigation a ‘witch hunt,'” noted the report. “After the U.S. Supreme Court in February cleared the way for Mr. Vance, a Democrat, to obtain his tax returns, Mr. Trump called the probe ‘all Democrat-inspired in a totally Democrat location.’ He added, ‘We will win!'”

And remember, first shit gets real and then it hits the fan.

Also bear in mind that the Manhattan D.A.’s office and the Attorney General for the State of New York appear to be running investigations concurrently into Trump and his organization.Ā

[Jennifer] Weisselberg has been speaking with prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the New York attorney general’s office as they investigate the finances of both Trump and the Trump Organization. The offices appear to be running parallel investigations into whether the former president and his company misrepresented the values of properties and other assets in order to pay less in taxes and procure favorable loan terms.

Weisselberg obtained the documents through a contentious divorce from Barry Weisselberg, whom she was married to between 2014 and 2018, after a judge forced him to submit for a deposition and subpoenaed his financial information. Barry Weisselberg is the son ofĀ Allen Weisselberg, the longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization who also manages the Trump family’s personal finances, and is a key Trump Organization employee in his own right as the manager of the company-run Wollman Rink in New York’s Central Park.

Levin, a former top official in Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office, is determining which documents might be relevant for the investigations before handing them over.

“She has joint-bank-account information, credit cards, tax records, tax returns ā€” that’s the meat of what we’re looking at to see what types of patterns we might be able to find,” Levin said.

Sounds very thorough, and in this case thorough translates as damaging. We shall see what we shall see.

  1. Trumpland must be rattled, to go and spend the kind of money to get this type of attorney. I’m assuming they require a retainer, right?

  2. JFC, the lawyer they got is 84?! This thing is going to drag on for years and I have my doubts he’ll outlive this case. Then again, I guess it was him or King Tut.

  3. The first thing I noticed about Trump’s running two sets of books and has been so confident in his dealings is, he has allowed public knowledge of many of his criminal actions by his own bravado and need to brag for the benefit of his narcissism …

He even blabbed top secrets to the two Russian agents in the oval office … his lack of control when it comes to saying things that he thinks make him a better man has, and will continue to be his worst enemy … now that everything is pointing down that long slippery slope to Trump hell, and since he has told literally thousands of lies, keeping ANY grip on reality, will be his last hurrah as the sliding doors slam shut behind him in his prison home …

Well, Donnie, if it’s an “all Democrat-inspired [probe] in a totally Democrat [sic] location,” why did you forget to chastise and badmouth the “mostly Republican with three Trump-appointed Justices” Supreme Court for LETTING those “evil” Democrats carry out the probe? Didn’t you expect Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Coney Barrett to provide you with that (more than proverbial) “get out of jail free” card?
