Trumpty is at it again. Except Trumpty Dumpty, unlike his namesake, Humpty Dumpty, can’t just go off the wall once and hit the sidewalk. No, Trumpty Dumpty has to climb back up the wall, dripping with yolk, and hurl himself from it again and again and again.

He had an epic meltdown on Saturday morning, that got the press corps all riled up. Now it’s Sunday night and somehow the phone is back in Trump’s tiny mitts.

You can see his latest ranting and raving here, but let me give you the spoiler up front: Trump’s got one last shot and it is a slim one. Robert Costello, who once was a lawyer for Michael Cohen, is set to testify before the grand jury tomorrow. His sole purpose is to undermine Cohen’s credibility, according to the New York Times. More on that after you seethe and teethe with Baby Trump throwing one of his hissy fits in his Mar-a-Lago playpen.

Not sure how Joe DiMaggio entered the conversation. But consider the source here. Being well hinged is not his strong suit. And it gets crazier, soon he’s saying the NYPD won’t really come and arrest him because they love him too much.

The switch to all-caps tells you that Trump’s freaking out. Cohen obviously has some real dirt on Trump. I can’t wait to hear it.

Now, granted, discussion has taken place about building up security in Manhattan, in the event of a Trump arrest. The NYPD is prepared to dispatch about 700 officers if need be. So what is Trump’s point? The officers are going to disregard their sworn duty and protect Trump, because they love him so much?

This is Trumpty Tactic 101, which is, Make Trump’s Problems America’s Problems. Nothing new to see here.

And now you get down to the essence of his spiel.

He’s talking about Robert Costello.  New York Times:

Under New York law, a person who is expected to be indicted can request that a witness appear on his or her behalf. Mr. Trump’s lawyers have asked that Mr. Costello testify, but the final decision rests with the grand jury; it is unclear whether they have made a decision. The grand jury has been hearing evidence about the former president’s involvement in a hush money payment to a porn star.

Mr. Costello’s appearance would come soon after Mr. Cohen concluded his own grand jury testimony. If Mr. Costello testifies, there is also a chance that Mr. Cohen will be asked to return to rebut some of Mr. Costello’s assertions.

A spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office declined to comment, as did Mr. Costello. A lawyer for Mr. Cohen, Lanny J. Davis, declined to comment.

The district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, a Democrat, is expected to seek an indictment of Mr. Trump as soon as this week. There have been several signals that charges may be imminent: The prosecutors gave Mr. Trump an opportunity to testify, a right given to people who will soon face indictment. They have now questioned nearly every major player in the hush money saga in front of the grand jury.

Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy is asking people not to protest and the idea that there are kazillions of MAGAs ready to answer Trump’s call has pretty much died away.

We shall see what we shall see. Remember, this Saturday Trump is in Waco, Texas to kick off his 2024 campaign. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the standard bearer for the Republican party.

    • My take on this is that since Trump’s defense attorneys asked Costello to testify, it’s their best shot. And Cohen may show up again to rebut Costello’s testimony. That is very likely. I think that Trump’s lawyers are putting on their best case, because that’s what they’re paid to do. It’s not a terrific case, but it’s their best.

  1. We’ve learned more than we want to in recent years (thanks to Trump) about the crime-fraud exception to attorney-client privilege. I don’t recall so much discussion of such things since the Bill Clinton blowjob fiasco over twenty years ago. On a related note, I’ve never gotten how Pat Cippilone in particular has been able to get away with withholding a single fucking thing from his time as WH Counsel. For those who don’t remember, Ken Starr’s team which included none other than a young Brett Kavanaugh (I don’t recall, but did Cippilone also work on Starr’s team? Bear in mind there’s not one single prominent government attorney in GOP circles who isn’t a Federalist Society member and Starr’s sprawling investigation utilized a ton of them!) went to great lengths to pierce attorney-client privilege for Clinton. Successfully I might add and in the case of the WH Counsel their argument was that the position (and same for anyone in the WH Counsel’s Office) was it was a taxpayer funded job and therefore no privilege existed. Basically, their employer was us taxpayers so nothing about ANY consultations with the President could be privileged! It’s driven me nuts that Democrats haven’t thrown this back in the GOP’s faces as so many keep asserting “privilege” and did so while Trump was still President even though he never once invoked “Executive Privilege.” Democrats SHOULD have forced his hand. Of course, many would like Clinton’s dalliance with Monica Lewinsky forgotten even though to my mind it never amounted to anything more than the kind of backseat fumbling & fooling around that back in my day was called “parking.”

Anyway, I can’t help but wonder what, without being released by Cohen to speak freely his lawyer can say without breaking privilege! At the very least wouldn’t he be subject to being disbarred? And if there were matters that would in fact allow the crime-fraud exception to apply, as in Cohen’s attorney actively facilitating a crime wouldn’t he be putting his own ass into a sling? Of course, he could plead the fifth but then why bother showing up to testify in the first place? No, I think this is just for show. Another Trumpian delaying tactic. Trump’s Sat. rant was a political/legal premature ejaculation. And I suspect word quickly filtered back that any visions he had about a repeat of January 6 with thousands of people storming the courthouse in DC and doing similar things around the country simply wasn’t going to happen. So, given the prospect of this new “testimony” and Cohen coming back to rebut it Trump is hoping to put things off for a week to buy more time to both gin up outrage and for various groups like the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys to organize something.

Speaking of Proud Boys and NYC I don’t think they’ll have the stomach to try and take on LE at a Trump arraignment. This weekend they showed up to what in their minds was instill fear and hopefully kick some “Woke” ass at a drag queen event. What happened is the “Proud” Boys got THEIR asses kicked. Literally physically assaulted and shouted down! As they slunk away they were caught whining about getting their butts kicked and being hounded, and in some of the clips you can literally hear chants of “Fuck the Proud Boys” as well as locals telling them to go the hell away back to where they came from.

    • Not sure why, but I felt great joy accompanied by a warm and fuzzy feeling reading your last paragraph. Proud Boys are literally the face of hatred and it does my old heart good to hear some folks kicked their ass and took their lunch money!

  2. Maybe seeing the foot soliders sit in jail, getting arrested, put on trial, and in general, being hunted by the DOJ, has discouraged a few. It’s easy to back a cause until it costs you a something.

    • That’s my take, exactly. The insurrectionists on January 6 thought that Trump would protect them, pardon them, all that. Now MAGA has had a chance to see what really happens to people who break into government buildings and destroy things. I don’t think too many are stupid enough to go back. Although, with MAGA, you never know.

  3. So, now Russia and North Korea have joined China and Iran among Trump’s list of “nations of a less than friendly nature.” Putin’s feelings are going to be hurt (especially after Trump’s been out there promoting the idea that Russia’s war with Ukraine is all Ukraine’s fault and that if he’d been President, the war would have been over a long time ago) and poor Kim! Trump had declared that he and Kim were such good buddies not that long ago.

  4. The line “Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio?” is from the Simon and Garfunkle song “Mrs. Robinson”. That’s the source. How it fits in to Trump’s rant is, not unexpectedly, a mystery.

      • He may not know, but may I siggest that it was a reference to going back in time to the fifties? DiMaggios last MLB appearance was in 1951. Already in 1967 when “The Graduate” ws released it was a line which suggested nostalgia. How much more now, when they are literally trying to drag us back – not to the actual fifties, but to all the wrst aspects of the fifties, without the decent wages for the middle class and the taxation of the wealthy.

  5. Trump now quoting Simon and Garfunkel (“Where have you gone Jo DiMaggio? Our nation turned its lonely eyes to you”)? Paul Simon should sue him.

And the reason Cohen is an ex-felon is because of the crimes he committed for and at the behest of Trump.

  6. So all Joe does is eat, sleep, sh*t? I remember him passing some astounding legislation and taking surprise trips to Ukraine as well. I think tRump is thinking of himself (as usual), although, now that I think of it, he IS a busy man. Besides eating, sleeping and sh*tting (usually himself), he also:

    Whines, snivels and bitches
    Cons and crimes
    Lies, cheats, steals
    Betrays his country and countrymen
Stirs up seditious a**holes and other traitors
Takes money from ignorant fools willing to believe him
    Assaults women
    Cheated on all his wives
    Lusts after his daughter
Has convinced a large number of people to betray their own moral standards in order to work for him (and vote for him)
Has done more to destroy this nation than any other ten people in our history.

What has Joe Biden done to compare with that?

  7. Well they want Costello to testify as to Cohens mental state and as to whether he’s able to be a credible witness. All together between the different cases I think the last time I saw Cohen on meidastouch he was up to at least 22 days of testimony in front of Braggs people and the grand jury. Whatever is up. We are way past where Trump gets his shoes shined. And by the way, who does Trump think he is. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. And you have Jim Jordan and that wimp from California getting all pissy because they are finally closing in on Trump. To bad boys. And in my opinion Jordan and the rest of that freedom bullcrap maga caucus needs to start talking to attorneys. They were in J6 right up to their eyeballs. They know Jim Jordan talked and texted Trump throughout the day.

  8. Unlike a wannabe leader who does the same, with the addition of riding a golf cart (instead of a push-bike) and throws ketchup at walls

  9. Interesting that Michael Cohen on MSNBC has denied ever having engaged Costello as his attorney or signing any kind of waiver of attorney/client privilege. His responses are plausible, and the fact that on some points, he has given the DA documents substantiating his testimony. It is also telling that he was on hand to be a rebuttal witness after Costello testified, but the DA saw no need to call him. We shall see what we shall see, likely Wednesday.
