This is going to be nerve wracking and down to the last vote, apparently. Associated Press via News 10:

DENVER (AP) — Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert’s lead has decreased against Democrat Adam Frisch, putting the tight race for a U.S. House seat representing a largely rural swath of Colorado into the automatic recount zone Thursday with some votes still left to count.

Boebert, a conservative firebrand, saw her lead fall to about 556 votes with new results Thursday in a race that’s being closely watched across the country as Republicans try to bolster their advantage in the U.S. House after clinching a narrow majority Wednesday night.

Boebert’s margin puts the race within the threshold that would trigger a mandatory recount in the district. In Colorado, an automatic recount is triggered when the margin of votes between the top two candidates is at or below 0.5% of the leading candidate’s vote total. On Thursday, that margin was around 0.34%.

The updated results follow a hectic few days for both campaigns as they scrambled to “cure” ballots — the process of confirming voters’ choices if their ballots had been rejected in the initial count. Both the Republican and Democratic national campaign committees had boots on the ground in Colorado to support the efforts.

If the worst comes to the worst and Boebert is reelected by a slight margin of a couple of hundred votes, hopefully that will send a message to her. She is not universally loved. If she does get another term, by the skin of her teeth, hopefully she will walk and talk a different way.

But I doubt it. I think that she’s got one speed, 100% obnoxious and if she’s not operating at that level, then she’s off.

  1. I saw that at CPR – the article was dated 4 am. It also entioned the uncounted ballots included some rehularly cast which were held hack to protect the anonymity of the later ones – and that sounds right – Colorado is an anonymity hawk, The only time as a judge I ever know how anyone voted was counting absentee ballots in a special district election, and the only reason I knew was that is was unanimous. We took every precaution not to know who was related to which ballot, but the unanimity defeated us.

Sorry, but Boebert won’t change. She’ll look at ANY win–no matter how narrow it was achieved–as a wholehearted endorsement of everything she’s done. And it’s not just her; it’s become part of the GOP’s very DNA. Take a win–no matter how narrow–and declare it a mandate to force through your agenda. It’s been going on since 2001 when Dubya took office and acted like he’d won by a 50-point margin, an electoral college win of 535-3, and a Congress that had 80% GOP control in both houses.

A Democrat, on the other hand, could actually win by a 50-point margin, an electoral college win of 535-3 and have 80% Democratic control in both houses of Congress and the GOP would be demanding that he act with an eye to bipartisanship.

    • “She’ll look at ANY win–no matter how narrow it was achieved–as a wholehearted endorsement of everything she’s done.” Nah, that’s far too analytical for a lizard brain like Boebert. There is no thought process whatsoever. She’s in office, she acts like Boebert— that’s it.

  3. I fear she is going to eke out a win here which begs the question of WTF is wrong with people in that part of Colorado but that’s something for another time.

As far as “lessons” go, she’ll take from it the same thing Trump took from his miraculous deed of riding the vestigial Constitutional organ of the Electoral College into the WH in 2016 – the lesson being “I can get away with ANYTHING.” If you thought Bobblehead was awful before then strap in because you ain’t seen nothing yet!
