Hello all of my pipples! My sincere apologies for my extended absence from the site, especially in such exciting times. Let’s just say it’s been an adventure, and I thought that my readers deserved an explanation.

Y’all know that a little over a month ago I underwent surgery on my right eye for cataracts and glaucoma, and that it was wonderfully successful. Two weeks later, I underwent the same procedure for my left eye, and things came a bit of a cropper.

Because of severe scratching and irritation in my right eye following the surgery, the last thing that my doctor did in the left eye was to put a clear plastic contact lens over the implant to control the irritation. It worked like a champion for three days, but then the lens folded over on itself, tore and scratched the eye. Fortunately it did not scratch the new implant lens, but off to the left.

This happened at the start of a weekend, so it was Wednesday of the next week before I saw my doctor. The contact lens had fallen out, but the damage was done. As a result, I have spent the last week with my left eyelid taped shut to stop blinking. I saw the doctor yesterday, and he was thrilled with the results. There is a little leftover scabbing, but the eye is now healing normally for my optometrist appointment on the 22nd for new glasses.

And now for a purely personal Note. The Murfinator actually cried tonight. For the first time in a month, I sat at the table, opened the laptop, and turned it on. And for the first time in almost five years, I could actually see the fucking letters on the keys!

A word of caution. There is still some scratching in the left eye, and some watering as a result. But in the previous article I put up, when Teri proofed it, she found only 5 errors, and at least two of those could be chalked up to fat fingers hitting two keys at the same time.

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your tolerance and support while I worked my way through this. But I am so ready to go, and there is so much to talk about! Strap in my dear friends, it’s gonna be one helluva ride!

Peace Out

Murf

  1. Couldn’t imagine better news. Since I’m using -10 and -8.75 glasses at age 40 myself, I can imagine how I might face similar challenges later in life.

I’ve got my fingers and toes crossed for you!

    • W, and have coverage, the surgery will literally gi ve you ypour life back…If it’s glaucoma, het the drops that will arrest the progress and give you something to work with…

  2. Congratulations, and best wishes. It lifts my spirits to hear the procedures were successful. Of the many miracles modern medicine can provide, to offer someone their sight back is an amazing thing.

  3. Congratulations and thanks for the update! May you keep on getting better! Medical procedures are fraught, read scary, even when they work. But here you are! Question: when did it happen that we geezers became the avant garde? Just wondering . . . Welcome back!

  4. Marvelous news, Murf! I’ll admit, I was concerned (not worried, mind you) while you were gone—-and I’m glad things are turning out all right!

  5. Best wishes to you, Murf. I am dealing with macular edema, which I’d never heard of until I flunked the vision test for my driver’s license renewal. I am lucky that it was diagnosed before any permanent damage had occurred. Bottom line, if you are of a “certain age,” get a complete eye exam, even if you think your vision is fine, and especially if it isn’t.

  6. Glad to hear that you are doing well Murf! When I had my cataract surgery, I went from not being able to drive and trouble seeing even large fonts to 20/20 in my left eye. Still getting shots in the right eye. It is indeed a miracle to get sight back! And yes, if anyone has even the slightest vision problem, you should see your eye doctor!!

    • Thanks!!! With my glaucoma, I’ll never drive again, but what has been the greatest revelation in my life is that since the cataracts are gone, my world actually has COLORS asgain!!!
