This week’s song is a request from the delightful and talented Monica Tidwell who thought it would be a fun one to do. She was right! As soon as they heard the song, the Furkids enthusiastically set about determining which of them had the most beautiful eyes. Since that turned out to be all of them, they asked me to decide on the final selection. Yeah, well, that took a while!

The music was written by Harry Warren with the lyrics by Johnny Mercer for the 1938 movie Going Places. In the film, Louis Armstrong plays a trainer who tries to soothe a wild racehorse named Jeepers Creepers by singing the tune and playing it on his trumpet. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1938 and, in 1984, was included in the Smithsonian collection American Popular Song: Six Decades of Songwriters and Singers.

We’ve dialled the jukebox back to 1938 so just press play, scroll down to the illustrated lyrics and sing along!

    • As soon as I saw that tweet I grabbed it! I’d already started work on Jeepers Creepers but didn’t have a coda for it until I saw that tweet! I Hope 2023 is treating you well.

With loving hugs from the Furds and me
