Now it begins. Now we see how the Kyle Rittenhouse verdict and Rittenhouse’s subsequent elevation to cult hero status is going to get a lot of people killed in the months and years to come.

A domestic altercation in Lubbock, Texas ended with a man shot dead on the porch by his ex-wife’s boyfriend. His widow has released a video of the incident. It’s going around social media but I haven’t found an embeddable clip. This is a link to the local newspaper which contains the video. Go there and watch it.. It’s incredibly disturbing because literally the decedent is here one second and gone the next. Plus, the shooter is just fine with the result. Just fine with having a dead body crumpled on the porch.

As you’ll see, the decedent gets into an altercation with the man who lives with his ex-wife. The two do a macho dance for a few moments and then the guy with the gun points it at the guy without the gun and shoots and that’s it. Game over. Life extinguished.

The shooter here created the life threatening situation by coming out the door, rifle in hand. Yet he’s claiming self-defense. This is nuts, but this is who we are in 2021.

Here are details from the story linked to above. Christina is the decedent’s ex-wife.

During the argument, Christina could be heard saying the child was not home and that she was going to fetch him.  She also said that she didn’t abide by the court ordered deadline because she wanted to see their son.

“I don’t care if you wanted to see him or not,” Chad Read said. “I get him at 3:15 p.m. If you want to see him, you see him up until 3:15. You keep trying to keep my son from me.”

Chad Read threatened to subpoena multiple people in response, including Kyle Carruth’s ex wife, Judge Anne-Marie Carruth. At that point, Kyle, who previously told Chad to leave the property, emerged from the home with a rifle.

The two can be seen bumping chests as they argue. Chad Read challenged Kyle Carruth to use the weapon.

“Do it,” Read can be heard saying. “You better ******* use it ************.”

The two continue arguing. Jennifer Read, who is filming the altercation from a vehicle, tells someone off camera to call the police. Carruth is seen firing a shot on the ground at Read’s feet.

Read places his hand on the gun, propelling Carruth away from him. Carruth then spins around and fires twice at Read, who could be heard saying, “think I’m ******* scared?”

Video of the Nov. 5 shooting death of Chad Read was released Wednesday by Jennifer Read, who is now seeking custody of her husband's children.

The camera pans at Read who has dropped on the ground as Jennifer Read calls again for someone to call 911.

Jennifer tells Kyle she has the incident on video.

“You did it, not him,” Jennifer Read says.

Kyle responds, telling her “I told all of y’all to leave.”

“None of you all should be here. I asked you to leave. I did everything … I did not want to do any of this.”

Responding officers arrived to find Chad dead at the scene.

And here’s the rationale by the shooter’s lawyers.

Carruth’s attorney, David M. Guinn with Hurley, Guinn & Singh, has argued that the shooting was self-defense.

“All Texans may lawfully brandish a firearm to protect themselves, their property and their business.” Guinn said.

Guinn told EverythingLubbock.com that Read threatened to take the gun from Carruth. He also said the manner in which Carruth advanced towards him poised “an immediate threat” to his client.

“This is a justifiable homicide,” Guinn contended.

And now Ken Paxton’s office will take a look at it.

So that’s it. That’s how a normal altercation among kids and exes on a normal visitation day went down on a normal weekend in Lubbock, Texas. May God help us, if this is who we have become.

  1. Don’t know the kid’s age but what about him? I ask the boy’s mother. Why didn’t YOU stop YOUR boyfriend from killing YOUR SON’S FATHER??? Why are u with a ‘man’ who brandishes guns? I’m not saying the dead man did things the right way but HE WAS NOT CARRYING A WEAPON. AMERICA…U SUCK. THE CHILDREN ALWAYS PAY.

    • If you read further down in the article, reference is made to how the boy in question intends to run away if he sees this Kyle guy again. Obviously, Kyle wasn’t thinking of the boy’s welfare. The man was his father and now his father is gone.

  2. The woman saying call 911 didn’t scream at all when she saw him shot and die. Weird how some folks think about shootings. Chad will never see his son again and vice versa. There was another way of dealing with this – contact police and have them help get his son. Asshole with shotgun was wanting to shoot. He came out with the gun and he shot to kill. He warned. He told him to leave the property numerous times. His ass is covered in that aspect. Surprised the first shot didn’t hit the ex-wife off to the side – where did that bullet go? The ex-wife didn’t scream, cry out – nothing. Did see her on her knees at the end of the video. Carruth won’t be charged. Chad challenged him by getting up in his face and yes, Ursula – this is who we’ve become.

    • The casualness of all this is what is the most shocking. The shooter didn’t hesitate to kill another man. He was pissed at him so *poof* he’s gone now. No respect for human life. We live in a day and age where capitol punishment is debated and why? There are people happy to blow somebody away on the porch, what’s the big moral debate? What, you think life is sacred or something? And here’s the irony: if the shooter was an abortionist and the decedent a child in utero, oh, man, would the shooter be looking at a different reality about taking a life!

    • Here’s the thing that sticks out for me–the woman in the car shooting the video of the whole thing, was she using a cell phone? If so, why in the fuck didn’t she call law enforcement? Is video footage so damned important? Her “boyfriend” is dead now. WTF?

As for paxton deciding on charges-does anyone doubt for one moment that charges are not going to be filed I mean c’mon FFS. Texass is the state that started this “shoot first, ask questions, maybe, later” bullshit.

  3. I’m pretty sure the so-called “Castle Doctrine” will wind up getting this guy off the hook. He ordered the victim off his porch and the guy didn’t leave. Even coming back out with his gun didn’t get the guy to leave and the guy chest bumps him. Daring him to shoot wasn’t wise either, because retreating which he probably under TX law wasn’t required to do since he was on his own porch AND knowing his girlfriend, the ex-wife was watching. Our guy with his gun knew damn well he could get away with shooting and killing his victim so he did. In my not so humble opinion solely to “save face” in front of the ex-wife/his now girlfriend.

As has already been stated, yes this is what we’ve become. But we’ve been that way for a long while now. It’s just getting more attention now.

  4. That thought occurred to me as well. But let me tell you what else I think. This case may be one tried in the court of public opinion. The shooter killed a man and it’s all on tape. The man didn’t deserve to die. So what I think may happen is that this guy’s business may shrivel up and blow away. The relationship is toast. I can’t see the two of them staying together when the guy killed the girlfriend’s son’s father. I mean, c’mon. This is just too over the top. He will most probably get away with it legally but I would be truly amazed if this doesn’t wreck his life in other ways and rightfully so.

    • George Floyd was “over the top.” IMO, this isn’t over the top. It is what is. He will be glorified not crucified because he warned them. Chad approached and called him on it chest butting him. There were other ways of dealing with this. Chad could have called police to assist in getting his son. Asshole could have gone inside and called cops asking for assistance because Chad wouldn’t leave – rather than get his fucking gun. Macho-ism. There was a lot of animus prior to this incident. Chad is dead. Kids don’t have a father. Mother was living with guy who killed their dad. It’s the kids that break my heart.

  5. I came to the US as a student in the 80s. I admired the freedom of speech; individual rights, and generosity I saw. I saw individual rights trump group advantage. I saw flag burning as a freedom of expression, of protest. Coming from a country where community rights overcome individual rights, and where a flag on my shorts can get me arrested, I was amazed and in awe of America. … Now, I’m sad and disgusted at the bigotry, hatred, and selfishness. Sad

    • I am sorry you have to see us in our element. We created these monsters. Unfortunately, one half of this country are demon-haunted idiots without sense enough to pour piss out of a boot with the instructions on the heel. Mix that with unfettered individual rights and you will have the nation we have become. These fools think democracy means their ignorance is the same as knowledge, facts. I cannot even begin to fathom such stupidity.

      • Never forget the 300 million guns the NRA/GOP put on the streets so someone without a shred of brain matter chooses death over life. Funny never heard their “the only way to stop a bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun”, defense for the people shot by baby huey. Instead they flipped it & said he was afraid. I find myself wishing there is a hell in the afterlife since evil gets seats in congress, the presidency, & the boards of corporations, & the innocent pay over & over & over & over. Goddamn them all. I’ll take my judgement any fucking day if I ever get to see justice be anything other than a word in the dictionary.
