Donald Trump is getting told to get screwed right and left these days. He’s not winning any popularity contests, that much is certain, after he tweeted his racist response to the Minneapolis George Floyd demonstrations, “when the looting starts the shooting starts.” This is one line that is backfiring, bigly.  Lori Lightfoot, Mayor of Chicago, minced no words. Chicago Tribune:

“He wants to show failures on the part of Democratic local leaders, to throw red meat to his base,” Lightfoot said in opening remarks at an afternoon news conference. “His goal is to polarize, to destabilize local government and inflame racist urges. We can absolutely not let him prevail. And I will code what I really want to say to Donald Trump. It’s two words. It begins with F and it ends with U.”

Asked later whether she should have used that language toward Trump, in light of former first lady Michelle Obama’s “when they go low, we go high” mantra, Lightfoot didn’t back down.

“I don’t take the bait every time, but this time, when we are suffering pain and trauma at the killing of a black man in the street, to try to, for political gain, and blow the dog whistle to his base, I’m a black woman, and a leader, and I feel an obligation to speak out when something as offensive as that is said by anyone, but particularly the president,” she said. “And I make no apologies whatsoever for my word choice, and the way in which I’m calling him out for what he said.”

At the time of this writing, Trump is hiding away and hasn’t responded. But Lightfoot will undoubtedly go right onto the “nasty” or “crazy” list along with a notable group of other female politicians. The list is growing.

You know it’s going to happen….while Steven Miller is asleep in his coffin, and there is no one around to supervise him, Trump-O will rage tweet the N word…….it’s just a matter of time.

It reminds me of being in marching band one term in college, and learning the “firetruck” cheer, which the school administration Did Not Appreciate at all.

Chicago. Well, everyone is getting fired up. Love Chicago. My wife and I have been shown great kindness by black people in Chicago. The country is in a giant Kitchen Aid mixing bowl. I think after 45 minutes in the oven this country might be real tasty. 1968 was a year similar to 2020. However, in 1968 we still had the draft and the riots after King’s murder. The media and the country turned on the civil rights movement after the riots. Except on FOX, things are different. Oh, we don’t have hippies which were a graphic and colorful F… Read more »

Chi-Town rocks, no doubt. Wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it doesn’t become the source of a lot more FUs to the Trumps of the world as the century rolls on.

There’s a huge difference between 1968 and now. In 1968 it was all about perceived “hippies” — mostly affluent young white males — who didn’t want to go to Vietnam, which was this distant thing. Now it’s not “hippies” and it’s in our backyard and on tv and on our computers, and it’s horrifying people who might not have otherwise felt it related to them. The “silent majority” this time is infuriated with Trump and his allies. And they’re silent no more.

From Alan Moore, V From Vendetta: “It does do well to rely on silent majorities. One loud noise and it’s gone.”
