Donald Trump and the City of Baltimore have a checkered past together. Trump called Baltimore a “disgusting and rat-infested mess” where “no human would want to live.” And he had no love lost for the late Elijah Cummings, who was a beloved citizen of Baltimore. So on that premise, Trump’s planned visit to Baltimore for Memorial Day was a bit surprising. But now, it’s off altogether at the request of the Mayor. And if you read between the lines, it’s not difficult to see that the Mayor doesn’t want to get stiffed for security costs, like so many other towns that Trump has visited have, because he’s already got enough financial headaches.

Trump is notorious for stiffing municipal governments by not paying for local law enforcement costs for his visits. Baltimore obviously doesn’t want to get in line and wait for payment that likely will never come. Plus, the wording of the rest of the letter makes a commentary on Trump’s cavalier attitude towards COVID-19, not wearing a mask, etc. Good for the Mayor. He’s putting forth the right message and the bottom line seems to be, the people of Baltimore have had enough of Trump’s trollling, they don’t want to be stiffed as well. Hear hear. Let’s send the same message at the ballot box in November.

Another thing to consider is how Baltimore has spent stretches of this century and the previous one being this side of poor. A presidential visit that’s unpaid may well break the annual budget for this year. I believe the Jewish term of what Trump is is “gonish”, which means “thief”.

He needs to hear that if he goes where he is not wanted, HE will pay for his security and other costs of his travel! HE will pay. NOT the CIty. Not the citizens! (Yes Id say that for Dems too.)

Not to sound to trite but with Memorial Day coming up we can take solace in the fact that sometime between now and then we will top 100,000 deaths. We will be able to mourn our fallen hero’s in battle and our fallen heroes in sickness. And trump still doesn’t get it. Where are the unlimited tests and the simple plan to trace and track this monster. We are the world leaders in medicine and we can’t get testing done. This is criminal negligence on trumps part. It’s wearing out.

I fall asleep dreaming Congressman Cummings R.I.P., has decided to do a Marley on Mr.Stooge, which may explain some of the mad rants in the middle of the night. It’s hard to think straight hiding & trembling in flopsweat under the blanket.

The Mayor is far more delicate than I would’ve been in the same position. There’d have been a lot more F-bombs being slung with a fair amount of “After the badmouthing you did to my city” and “Your son-in-law’s the biggest slumlord this town’s ever had” and “We’re not about to be stuck paying YOUR bills, you worthless over-privileged piece of trash” tossed in for good measure.

It would’ve been worth all the right-wing death threats.

The problem that will be, as I see it, is that the narcisstic hypocrite will go ahead and visit anyway (and still stiff the city for security costs). Can the mayor or the relevant property owner) refuse to lease their facility for his rally (but he’d probably hold one on the steps of Air Force One)

Since WW2, about 95,000 Americans have died in wars fighting for their country.

In the last month more people than that have died from Trump’s ineptitude in handling a clearly warned crisis.

A crisis predicted and prepared for by the previous administration, who left their research and instructions and infrastructure to cope with it, that this idiot threw away.

When will the memorial to the victims of the Trump virus disaster be built?

Just as soon as we make it clear the virus is now known by the name, [Trump’s Perfect Virus], he ignored it, promoted it, and should be happy to accept the designation … after all, he created the 100,000 deaths and has not had to lift any fingers to get it done, plenty of time to go golfing … again and again …

I do wish that instead of saying “If he decides to come…we will prepare for his visit”, he had said “If you come, bring all your own security ’cause we can’t afford to help you at all”.

Kudo to Baltimore. They don’t need that crook coming there. Nothing but trash anyway.

I don’t see the cancellation here. The Mayor just left it up to him and said they would be ready if he came. What the heck are we celebrating here?

First, Trump is not “the nation’s leader.” Quite the reverse! Second, cities should be able to decline presidential visits as long as they demand cities spend money on them which is better spent on citizens than on politicians. That stands for both parties. Third, there is no legitimate reason that presidential visits should be treated like State Visits from God. There is no good reason for THOUSANDS of people and vehicles and other stuff (per Nicolle Wallace) to have to move with a president as though he were all-important. Presidents are replaced regularly. Every human being is, in that sense,… Read more »

Though I certainly wish he could, the Mayor did NOT cancel this event. He can’t, it’s a national park and if President Elephant Pants wants to go there, he can. But he’s a damn fool if he does. Wait, he was born a damn fool, change that to dumber today than yesterday, and yesterday he was fucking brainless.
