It looks like Donald Trump is playing us once again, with his latest attraction in the never ending carnival act that is his presidency. No, he’s not swallowing a flaming sword, but almost — he’s taking hydroxychloroquine. This announcment, of course, got the press on the horn begging for documentary evidence and that produced a missive from the White House physician — saying Trump was in ” very good health” but not saying a word about him actually taking hydroxychloroquine.
The White House physician says he and the president “concluded the potential benefit from treatment outweighed the relative risks.” The FDA says there’s no evidence hydroxychloroquine treats or prevents coronavirus. Dr. Conley says Trump has no symptoms and is still negative. pic.twitter.com/o9DQrfSjJH

This doesn’t say he’s actually taking it. Boosts both the “he’s lying” and the “he doesn’t know they’re giving him a placebo” theories. https://t.co/kAxNtgrKJ8

if the doctor wanted to confirm Trump was taking the drug, the doctor would have clearly confirmed Trump was taking the drug
not this word salad

Very good point. His lawyer probably edited the statement to ensure plausible deniability/ no one is caught actually lying. Yes they discussed risks and the benefits. But nothing saying he is taking it. Only definitive statement is he’s getting tested regularly and is negative.

It is word salad, but the paragraph about 'benefits outweighing risks' suggests the doctor is going along with it. At the very least, he should have roundly and publicly rejected the idea of anyone taking the drug for COVID-19.
Anyway, I'm curious about your thinking here.

This is very irresponsible, any way you cut it. It’s irresponsible on the doctor’s end and it’s vintage Trump do something crazy and get all the attention, on the other. And either way, it appears to be illegal. If the doctor gave him the prescription, for something that is unapproved, that’s illegal. If the doctor knows Trump is taking the drug without a prescription, that’s illegal. And what is the point? For Donald Trump to show that he knows more than all the doctors? Maybe it’s come to that. Maybe his off-kilter ego just needs to get a lot more people killed while he plays a game of intellectual chicken with the medical establishment. Incredible. But not surprising.
