Bill Barr is not the most content bunny in the briar patch considering how he has to contend with being undercut by Donald Trump’s endless tweeting, which has the effect of throwing a spotlight on Barr’s nefarious deeds. Barr has been committed from square one to making RussiaGate go away and his idiot boss keeps blowing his cover. Greg Sargent, Washington Post:
Congratulations to Attorney General Bill Barr for taking charge of a case that was totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought. Evidence now clearly shows that the Mueller Scam was improperly brought & tainted. Even Bob Mueller lied to Congress!
This is a straight-up celebration of the fact that in intervening for Stone — who was convicted of obstructing Congress and witness tampering in connection with investigations into Russian subversion of our election — Barr is doing the president’s political bidding.
In their original recommendation of a stiff sentence for Stone, prosecutors explicitly noted he’d obstructed an investigation designed to provide a full accounting of that attack on our political system.
But now Trump is openly declaring that in interfering, Barr is helping to delegitimize that investigation entirely. In short, Barr — who has tasked prosecutor John Durham with “reviewing” the investigation’s origins — is helping Trump make the Russian attack disappear.
This isn’t the way you run a black ops mission. This is supposed to be covert and Trump is too stupid to know from covert. So Bill Barr is pissed at Trump, and this could get amusing fast. Trump wasn’t expecting his pit bull to turn on him, he’s supposed to attack his enemies. Washington Post:
Attorney General William P. Barr pushed back hard Thursday against President Trump’s criticism of the Justice Department, saying, “I’m not going to be bullied or influenced by anybody.”
In an interview with ABC News, Barr said the president’s highly critical tweets aimed at the department “make it impossible for me to do my job.”
Barr said he was prepared to accept the consequences of speaking out against the president.
“I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me,” the attorney general said.
And Barr’s got incoming fire coming from all sides. Here’s a viral tweet from former Inspector General Michael R. Bromwich.
Memo to all career DOJ employees
This is not what you signed up for. The four prosecutors who bailed on the Stone case have shown the way. Report all instances of improper political influence and other misdeeds to the DOJ IG, who is required to protect your identity.

Bill Barr was perfectly happy to throw battery acid on the concept of prosecutorial independence and then Trump had to go and screw it all up by congratulating him on his subterfuge. And he says that John Kelly is the one who can’t keep his mouth shut. Sweet Jesus.
