Dirty Trickster Roger Stone had a good long run, longer than most of his ilk, that’s for certain. However, it looks like he’s now at the end of the road — or at least in a cul de sac that he cannot easily walk out of. Axios:
The big picture: Stone, one of several Trump associates to be indicted as a result of the Mueller investigation, was found guilty in November of lying to Congress about his efforts to learn more about when WikiLeaks would publish damaging emails about 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Stone is set to be sentenced on Feb. 20. Former national security adviser Michael Flynn is the only other Trump associate convicted in the Mueller investigation who continues to await sentencing.
The self-proclaimed “dirty trickster” was hit with a gag order during his trial after he posted an Instagram that appeared to show crosshairs next to an image of D.C. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson.
Stone is not in a great place right now. He not only obstructed Congress’s investigation into Russia — which in this administration is not only not a big deal, it’s pretty much de rigueur to be a real Trumpite — but he’s convicted of lying under oath and witness tampering.
Will Donald Trump pardon him? You can lay odds as well as the professional book makers. Right now it’s even money that if Trump loses in November, he’ll pardon all his buddies, Stone, Manafort — maybe not Michael Cohen. Sure is interesting how many of Trump’s associates end up going to live in the House of Many Doors, isn’t it?
Place your bets, mesdames et messieurs, this is the era of Trump and anything goes.
