Bernie Sanders Is Playing With Fire, Slams Warren, Biden

Oh boy.

Well, here goes nothing, I should know better, but …

Bernie Sanders has gone on the attack, and it isn’t in a good way, directed at Donald Trump.

Nope, the Sanders campaign is now strongly attacking both Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden.

Yes, we do want a fighter. We want a fighter for all Democrats, and even all independents.

Politico has some more details about how it is all happening through a script volunteers are to read:

The script instructs Sanders volunteers to tell voters leaning toward the Massachusetts senator that the “people who support her are highly-educated, more affluent people who are going to show up and vote Democratic no matter what” and that “she’s bringing no new bases into the Democratic Party.”

No “new bases”?

Women?

Twitter is lit with people proclaiming that Sanders is the one person who would lose the race to Trump. Indeed, the Obama campaign’s Jim Messina says that Trump likely wants to run against Sanders. Trump will want to run against the supposed “socialist” platform. I don’t believe that is necessarily true, or at least I never used to assume it to be true. I am starting to wonder.

I do know this. The more Democrats tear at each other, the easier time Trump will have. The more invested each Democrat becomes in his or her candidate, to the point of hostility to another, the more we ensure that some unenthusiastic voters stay home, ones needed versus Trump.

I don’t want to hear any Democratic candidate tell me why another has a problem. Never. I will figure that out myself. I want to hear why a candidate believes he or she is the best person to defeat Trump and instill sanity again. It is the only platform in which I’m interested.

I still haven’t decided who I will support.

But I will rule out anyone who is blasting other candidates in an attempt to get that person out of the race. I do not consider the above to be “blasting,” but it’s damned close, putting down the supporters of someone else, defining them with damning “praise.”

I do not understand how it is that this has happened twice now, and Democrats don’t seem to learn. To be honest, it does seem like a feature, not a bug, to the Sanders movement. It is frustrating to see, maddening to think about. The consequences are way too severe to be playing with this kind of fire.

If Sanders wins the nomination by destroying the other Democratic candidates such that he infuriates voters from other camps, what good does that do Sanders?

None. It means he will lose the general election. Any candidate, including Sanders, needs to convince people across a broad spectrum of beliefs, and will need every Democrat, to the right and left.

The Sanders campaign better get a grip on itself, and start looking at the big-picture landscape. I haven’t ruled anyone out yet, and I sure don’t want to before even Iowa. But I am damned close.

And I even like Bernie.

If you have great ideas, why would you tear other democrats down? I don’t care much for bernie. I will vote for him if he wins the nomination, I won’t do it happily, though. The people he surrounds himself with, remind me of the people around trump. This is a time to stand together against trump. If you can’t do that without being nasty, something is very wrong.

Sanders was trying to act like he didn’t know what his people in the field were saying. Perhaps. I don’t know. Jason Johnson had an article in “The Root” covering senior black people’s choices. Biden is first because he is a white man. Warren is second because she is really their first choice, but feel American will not elect a woman. Sanders is third. I think Warren needs to start focusing on why she went from being a Republican to being a Democrat. That is her real story. Plans are nice and show she is thinking about the needs of… Read more »

To me, if sanders really doesn’t know what his people are doing, that isn’t a positive for him. That is a huge problem. Take responsibility. Excuses, excuses. He should know everything.

Don’t like her ideas of taxing us more to pay off her supporters college debts or being forced off my great insurance and into Medicare which doesn’t cover much. I’m with Joe Biden. Fix the ACA and extend Medicaid. I’m also all in for lowering college debt interest to 1% but not for me paying off others college debts. In my family we served our country for college funding and the idea of being taxed more to pay off others debts is not right. You know when you sign on a loan that you’re responsible. We worked our way through… Read more »

You pay those debts through their wages. They can’t get out of them if they go broke, and that’s what you want them to do.

Biden is popular with black voters. I don’t know why, but they may associate him with Obama and his policies.
I prefer Warren *because* she has plans. I don’t care why she changed party, though it’s pretty obvious why she did it, if you think about it for even two seconds.

I;m with a man who can win, a moderate named Biden. He can win over those Mid Western voters while far left Sanders and Warren can’t.

Warren isn’t far left. Sanders isn’t really. You need to stop listening to pundits and talk-show hosts.

Henry only cares about Henry. Me, me, me. I gave the prime years of my life to this right wing country and got jack. I risked my life and almost died on I don’t know how many occasions on the Pacific while we chased and shadowed the Russians. Now they have taken over our government. The privileged class (not the 2%, but the ones that have more than they have to spend to live) is the greatest obstacle to justice and the fulfillment of the promise of our Constitution.

Yep. elizabeth’s response is spot on. This is what i want to hear. Just perfect. Bernie, and his camp should be ashamed.

Bernie is NOT a Democrat which is why he continues to insult the REAL Democrats in the race. And mae, Bernie basically *IS* Trump. The man ran in 2016 as a Democrat because he knew he’d never get anywhere on the national stage as an Independent and he LIED about his future with the Democratic Party after failing to get the nomination in 2016. Why is the Party allowing this charlatan to play this time around? He said he would run in ALL future elections as a Democrat (because he’d been elected as an Independent by the people of Vermont,… Read more »

I support Bernie 110%. All one has to do is look at the records of the candidates put in front of us. Normal people don’t take the time to do their research. I feel it is appropriate for a candidate to point out other candidates flaws, as long as they are truth. That is how you educate voters.

I’ve been listening to season one of the podcast The Wilderness, which is excellent and highly recommended. The left doesn’t work when we put down any group. Even if the intent is reasonable, there’s too high a chance that voters will infer a derogatory attitude toward them personally and be offended. In the context of a general election, there was President Obama’s “I think some people cling to their religion and guns” comment. It was one of his few slip ups, even though his point was salient. But it created a perception in people that infers “he criticizes religious people… Read more »
