The Child in Chief was not happy with Matt Gaetz for backing Nancy Pelosi’s resolution and not voting to give him unlimited authority to start a war. Worse yet, Gaetz’ office sent an email to other Republicans, urging that they vote against Trump’s interests as well.  “We WILL be voting in favor of H. Con. Res. 83, and hope you will do the same!” So much for “Trump’s Best Buddy,” “Trump’s Ultimate Defender” and “Rising star of the Trumpian right,” as Gaetz advertises himself on his campaign website. Retribution from the White House was swift. Washington Post:

A senior White House official said it was “super uncool” and “quite unwise” for Gaetz to push for limits on the president’s authority. This person added that White House officials would not be returning Gaetz’s phone calls, text messages, “smoke signals or his kneelings in the snow.”

Whether Trump will take revenge on the congressman, who has made hundreds of television appearances backing the president and is a frequent visitor at the White House, remains unclear. Trump is often transactional, current and former aides say, and there is probably a path for Gaetz to return to the proverbial tent.

I guess Matt Gaetz will be practicing how to suck the chrome off of a trailer hitch in order to get back into Trump’s good graces. One interesting point here though: when push came to shove, Gaetz considered the reactions of his constituents, many of whom are military, and he put that above being a Trump sycophant. Wonder how many more Republicans might do just the same?

Interesting, how these folks occasionally seem to have a moment of clarity, but then heat from traitor tot forces them back into compliance.

Kneeling in the snow – a reference to the Emperor Henry going to the pope at Canossa.
