Having done two blurbs today, I am hesitant to write another, but I cannot let this go without sending it to a wider audience. A new WaPo story framed by George Conway in a tweet sums up Trump’s dynamic in a devastatingly thunderous way.

Trump is not afraid of foreign dictators learning what he is discussing, but he’s terrified his staff might hear his conversations?
The conclusion is obvious. The only possible reason for this practice is that Trump is regularly doing favors for foreign leaders, action that must be kept from staff. Moreover, one might note that the dictators could expose Trump’s crimes, but evidently that doesn’t scare Trump. The only takeaway is that Trump must be must be giving them what they want! Trump IS afraid of Americans exposing him, so he must be doing things WE, and even his staff, don’t want.
Framed in such a light it sends shivers down one’s spine. Trump is hiding from Americans because he’s against American interests. He is fine with Erdogan and Putin learning all his secrets. Trump KNOWS that those leaders won’t bribe or blackmail him. If they DO blackmail him, he must be fine with knowing he can deliver. The ONE thing of which Trump is most certainly not fine is Americans learning of his actions with foreign leaders. Evidently Trump cannot deliver if called out by Americans.
I don’t see how there is another takeaway. Trump fears staff action on his private calls more than a brutal dictator’s action on his private calls.
Oh, and the other thing it says, is that Trump doesn’t care about American foreign interests. After all, Putin hears every conversation. Thus Erdogan and others have all they ever need to bribe or blackmail Trump. But Trump is evidently willing to trade Erdogan’s demands or American demands.
Never ever forget, Trump comes first, always. And even though we certainly knew that, hearing it framed in this context and this way just thunders through a person.
He will never, ever, put American interests first if it might cost him personally. Never. Oh, and as if that’s not bad enough, he’s the first president in ages that never dropped all his conflicts, and kept them secret. The perfect storm.
UPDATE: This also states a truth that is tough to take:
Almost every paragraph of this piece has something jaw-dropping in it. But one big takeaway is that Putin probably knows more about the Trump-Giuliani-Ukraine scheme than Congressional investigators do. https://t.co/Nyd1gBGz2d
